Anonymous listing

Anonymous said in another post – “Dave Israel created the Anonymous listing process in order to get more people writing in the blog. Since it bothers some people like Ed Black and some others, perhaps Dave should rethink the process and stop people from commenting as Anonymous. Perhaps anonymous is only one person?”
It would make it easier to respond to all the anons if they would adopt a fake name for each post. That is an option on the comment box. Click on Name/URL and put something in the box. Then we could refer to their nom de plume / AKA instead of ‘Anonymous 4 posts back’.Have some fun with it, use a word, any word, names of 7 dwarfs, rock stars, or what makes you great, or not. e.g. Boring, Bananas, Babblingbrook …

  2. I think the Blog is just fine, mostly the anonymice are polite and thoughtful. Some need to vent – its good for yah, that’s what blog is for. If we occasionally get someone in the fourth stage of alzheimers then ignore it. Apologies to those of us with alzheimers.

  3. Guessing who the Anonymouses are is a good game to keep the brain sharp, most people leave lots of ‘fingerprints’ on their writing.

  4. Those of "US" who SHOULD be anonymous, are NOT !!! (think about it)

To Be Is To Do - Voltaire
Do Be Do Be Do - Sinatra

  5. First, I would like to disagree with Elaine’s view that I do not like the Anonymous postings.
What I would prefer are constructive, informative comments from anyone, not the kind that state “You are well like Please put your head back in your hole” and won’t sign their names!
We are all entitled to all our views, but the only way to see improvement in any process is to remain positive or constructive in commenting on issues. What may seem to be a personal attack is divisive and provides no forum for reasoned discussion.

I welcome all views on subject, personal attacks do nothing to improve our Community spirit or encourage change. If we are to develop new ideas, this forum is the place for such discussion. BOTH pro and con! But let’s try to remain on subject, please

    That’s my view, what’s yours?

  6. Hi all,
It is true that I opened up the BLOG to Anonymous Posting to increase usage and to encourage opinion flow.

The real question, I think, is Why is it necessary to so allow?

    It is called "zeitgeist" - the zeitgeist of our current era here in CV is that of petty retribution;

those that criticise the current suzerains to much, are not allowed to serve on Committees, they are not allowed to have articles in the UCO reporter, they are banned from the CV Q & A, in short they are ostracized!

Can you blame those who do not wish to be treated as Excommunicate and Anathema from hiding behind some sort of mask?

When the leaders become reasonable, rational, non-corrupted with "power" and transparent; perhaps the Anonymous may step out of the dark.

  7. Ed that was not Elaine's view it was Anonymous' view relocated because it wandered off topic. I used anonymous exact words since I would not want to misrepresent him/her. But we get your point.

  9. I don't mind annonymous comments and I think constructive criticism can be a good thing. I just get upset when people comment only for the purpose of being hurtful.
    We should keep annonymous.

  10. I have decided to use "anonymous" as my "non de plume" in future ;postings

  11. Suggestion to Dave Israel. Why don't you put the matter of letting people comment as "anonymous" up to a vote as you did with the bird?

How many say yes it is OK

How many say no drop the ability to comment in that manner.

  12. Sorry Elaine for misunderstand that you had quoted someone, but I did want to clarify and you helped.
    Thanks.

I also believe that the Anonymous postings allow for freedom to "speak one's mind" sans retaliation!

  13. Hi Larry,

A very good idea on a Poll to get the view of of our BLOGGERS.

So it shall be written, so it shall be done, watch the Sidebar for the poll.

  14. I for one will no longer recognize anonymous cowards. My Lord, if you don't have the guts to say something under your own name , you sure have nothing to say that would interest me. Mike

  15. I believe one should "stand-up" --- BUT, Dave's post is particularly relevant and true. To stay aloof, in fear or retribution or ..., is fine and YOUR right - just use a non de plume, so "we" know to whom we address.

  16. Perhaps people who do give there name have really noting to say anyway.

  17. Don't you just love when Dave writes, "So it shall be written, so it shall be done". I mean that in a very positive way!
I am voting to keep "anons" for all the reasons that most of you have writen. You won me over. Sorry Mike. We'll just have to ignore the nasty ones.
Concerning this particular post, I do think I have spent more time looking in the dictionary than reading your comments. Holy cow, "Suzerain"! And Capt John, you totally lost me except for the "Do Be Do Be Do - Sinatra" part. Maybe I am one of those who should just post as "anonymous".
What do you think about that GrumpyGranny". I got your fingerprints right I'm sure!
    YES TO ANONYMOUS!
