Water levels in Cypress Lakes looked higher than ours. 12”-18” drop from edge, water very clear, I saw no algae. Healthy common waterweed underwater (Egeria densa for Dave) shows stability of water level. They have high volume fountains in every inlet for oxygenation (fine spray ornamental fountain in photo). Do you think they pay Base Commodity Fee of $3257.00 per month? Needs more research. CL signed up for up to 700,000 gals per day, CV up to 750,000 gals per day. CL has ½ the water area.

Hi Elaine,
ReplyDeleteHere is a bit of arithmetic to conjure with.
The approximate area of CV is 1.1 Square Miles. This is 704 acres .1 square mile of water surface.
That is 64 acres. While the computation of evaporation rates is very complex, hydrologists have records here in Florida that date back to the late 1800's.
statistically about 50 inches per year evaporate from our water surface, in our zone which equates to about 233,000 gallons. per day.
Now interestingly enough statistics for the same period call for 59 inches of rain per year which should counterbalance this evaporation loss with 9 inches yearly of margin; but we have had very little rain for some time.
Add to that loss the 300 - 400 thousand gallons we use per day for irrigation (actual number a UCO Secret of State); based on the meter reading from date of inception; suggests to me, that if we took our full allocation of 750K-gallons, in time we would indeed catch up our normal levels.
The commodity cost would be a small number in our budget; about $11,000.00 per year.
I would say open the faucet.

ReplyDeleteHi Elaine,
ReplyDeleteFeb 8, 2009 8:33:00 PM,
Are you suggesting we all move to Cypress Lakes?
Dave
No.
ReplyDeletemove the managers of cypress lakes to CV and we will gain
$612 million in increased property values.
Still think UCO is a volunteer organization that doesn't cost us anything???
