  4. This is a very worthwhile project. HOWEVER, Associations MUST investigate NEW arrivals at CV to be sure they can afford the maintenance and upkeep costs here. Otherwise, we are compounding a serious problem.

    Yes; you are correct.

But keep in mind that right now in CV we have hundreds of good folk who were Investigated, and approved; and much later went to local "Financial Institutions" who provided Sub Prime Mortgage loans.

These loans provided variable rates which in due course re-set upwards, and now with the collapse of Real Estate values these folks are facing a progressive inability to make their Condo. and Rec. Lease payments.

This is yet one more result spinning out from a collapsed economy which is affecting more of our residents than you may realize.

  6. Will these funds be used to bail
out those who have defaulted on
    their assessments? In other words
will the monies go directly to the
    Association, or to the individual
to do with as they see fit?
Also it is my understanding that
taxes have been paid on behalf of
this fund, as a NON Profit, how can
    this be?

    Apr 16, 2009 1:50:00 PM,

The CV Fund filed Non-Profit Corporation papers on Jan. 13th. 2009.

There was a filing fee of $87.50; other than that, I am not aware of any taxes paid.

To positively verify this, please call Jean Dowling at:

  8. I certainly wish to help people in need. My question is: have food stamps, medicaid and SSI been looked into? I also was informed that gifts must be given by individuals only. According to most bylaws Associations are not allowed to spend unit owners money for anything other than the upkeep of their buildings.

  9. Someone with a social work background volunteering their time to straighten out folks in need could be better than cash in some cases, I think. The human resource potential in CV must be pretty deep. I can fix your sink- someone else must be good at making sure every person gets every bit of available benefit from govt, non-profits, etc. I am sure there are agencies that do this kind of thing but why shouldn't there be a volunteer entity inside CV, maybe under UCO auspices, or not? A CV based social work org would be more sensitive to the feelings of our neighbors, who for most part are from NE cities, not the South. Maybe some distressed residents, wary or ignorant of local services, would feel more comfortable dealing with a CV based agent, who “speaks their language”, doesn't embarass them and, most importantly, steers them to the help that they need.

  10. don4060, after all comments so far yours
to me is the most logical and to me the
way to continue not saying Jeans is not worth it both could be coordinated into
positive solutions, we must and should not make it into a welfare one but a temporary one during these times where maybe? some decisions turn out bad for some of our residents!
