ANONYMOUS POSTING POLL

Hi All,
Due to considerable controversey regarding the matter of Anonymous Commenting and Posting on the BLOG, and in response to a suggestion, I have set a Poll on the issue in the Side-bar.

Please enter your Vote.

  1. Good Idea Larry, Thanks Dave. Mike

  2. Regardless of the results of the poll, will the "Name" option still be available?

  3. I think no anonymous is a dumb idea, you might as well merge with Q&A.

  4. About a month ago Dave mentioned that there was a possibility of dropping the blog for lack of use. It appears that for whatever reason "anonymous" has generated more use, more comment and more activity. Why would you want to stop that?

  5. Good point Annon. (one up)
So nice to again hear from "horetense de puissy de le titfly". It's been too long.

How do you use a name in Open ID? When I type in a name, it keeps telling me that OpenID url is missing?

  6. Do not try to use open ID, click on Name/URL, put any name in the Name box, there is no URL requirement, leave the URL box blank.

  7. OpenID is an open, decentralized, free framework for user-centric digital identity. OpenID takes advantage of already existing internet technology (URI, HTTP, SSL, Diffie-Hellman) and realizes that people are already creating identities for themselves whether it be at their blog, photostream, profile page, etc. With OpenID you can easily transform one of these existing URIs into an account which can be used at sites which support OpenID logins.
Or you can read - http://openid.net/what/

  8. Hi Noni anne maus,

If the Vote goes against anonymous posting, which is very unlikely, "OpenID, Name/url, and Anonymous all go away.

This is a classic case of "Be careful of what you ask for, you just might get it"

There are many options for locking down this BLOG; but of course you already have an option for a Locked-down-CHICOM Forum; it is called the CV Q & A.

    Consider your Vote carefully.

  9. Since half the people on here have 10 names I might as well have a few.

  10. Hi All,
    The post by:

"Horetense de puissy de le titfly" Is clearly by a fraudulent pretender. The correct name of the Current Duchess of
    Le Titfly is:

" Whoretense De Puissay El Thurn Und Taxis."

  11. It worked. Thank you cottage chessy, not Dave said, and Whoretense De Puissay El Thurn Und Taxis.

  12. I think anonymous is perfect. The only thing I would like if they would add a number, such as anonymous 1, anonymous 42, anonymous 1863, anonymous 4-23-68, and so on. The reason is without being identified as being the same person with different answers. It becomes difficult when "anonymous" says "I like girls," and the next "anonymous" says "I like boys," and the third says "I don't like people; I am a loner." Now, if the same person said all these things, it would be hard to believe they were normal, and I would just not read their blog. It would be like if there were four people blogging in with the name "Flynn." You would want to know which Flynn was which? That's why Elaine puts a B after her name. There are lots of Elaines, but we all like ElaineB. If another Flynn comes along and signs "Flynn," I would change my name to "Flynn 68."

  13. Part of the mystery and intrigue of this here blog is to try to identify which anonymous is posting. How would we be able to label # 1 # 2? Will there be a lottery to assign the numbers? Will there be a box outside one of the pools where the various anonymous posters can come in the stealth of night and pick their number without revealing their true identity.Something like the person who writes cards about the tennis operation and puts in on bulletin boards.

Should I go out and buy a Burka to wear so that the security cameras if there are any , will not capture the real me.

Friends and Romans, what is your solution to this most vexing problem? Lend me your voice.

  14. Dear anonymous,

Good Question. How about your favorite number ?

    anonymous 7

    ReplyDelete
  15. Hey this is the digital age. I also like the number 7 but it is already taken. How about 7.1?

    ReplyDelete
  16. How about Anonymous 007? Wouldn't that make you feel powerful? Think about it. Doesn't the scene in the movie come into your mind when you say "Anonymous. 007," and you become another "Bond, James Bond"?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Flynn,
You should take "Anonymous 007". Very cool!

  19. I have had mucho phone calls from concerned bloggers as to the accuracy of the current voting method . Most of the bloggers have a great concern about not having a paper trail from which to decern the final tally, incase the computer fails .

  20. Fear Not Good Friends- I am sure that the Head CV Blogger has some special method already in place to handle the problem of counting the votes should the computer fail.

  21. Oh great one, CVBlogger has previously written that you can only vote one time per computer. Fear not Al Gore, all is under control.

  24. Hi Al Gore,

In case the Computer fails" you say!

Ok; what you are seeing on your screen is downloaded data from GOOGLE servers.

If your, or my, Computer fails it will have no effect whatsoever on the original source data which is highly redundant within the GOOGLE multi-site server network.

In short, the probability of total loss of the data is extremely remote.

The possibility does exist that someone with two or more Computers, having of course, two or more IP addresses, could stack the vote; as it is the IP Address that is checked for multiple voting from the same machine.

If such scurrilous behavior is suspected, other tools, such as "Who Is" and "Trace Route" will quickly reveal the source and all such votes save one will be stricken.

    Integrity will be preserved.

However, I will admit to influencing a fellow blogger who is more of a blogger reader than blogger writer. I cannot tell a lie!
