should anonymous - CONTINUE?

I am forever amazed at the ranting of those so uninformed as to openly, albeit under the anonymous postings, commit themselves to such completely incorrect positions that are so incorrect as to make the reading of such tripe unnecessary.

Perhaps we should reconsider the permission for unregistered comments to continue under the anonymous postings they are now abusing. Anytime some poor soul states someone is a criminal, without any proof to support such claims, the only criminal act is the perpetrator of this behavior, “libeling” the name party.

We should require each unregistered blogger to provide their name, address and e-mail address to the blog administrators, then we could observe their posts to assure they met the standards most of us maintain for the benefit of this Village. Remember everything we do is in the public forum and will live forever on the web and in many ways reflect badly on us all.. Those in non-complaisance, would have their entries removed and invited to change their approach. Failing that, they would of necessity, be banned from these continued ravings.

That’s my view, what's yours?

  1. I saw no problem in the past posting as "anonymous". However, I see from all the recent postings that this has given people a free reign to say whatever they want, no matter how untrue or hurtful it can be. I'm sure that this website was set up so that people could speak their mind without any fear of repercussions. But this blog has so much good information on it, let's look at it from the positive and not the negative that some have. Post as anonymous if you have something to say or question but do it in a way as not to offend anyone. Remember, we all have our own problems.

  2. I agree with Ed. I believe that the nasty anonys are ruining the website and will give it a bad name.
    Get rid of anonymous.

  3. I agree with Ed. I am ignoring the tripe and wild unsupported claims on the blog, which means I do not write much anymore. The endless useless 'criminal' squawking makes John’s madness and cackling HAHAHA seem relatively normal.

  4. Maybe some sort of registration that the Blogmeisters know who is saying what, but that general anons can publish with that restriction.

  5. I share Ed's opinion..
If at this stage of life, you need
    to "Hide" your identity,for fear
    of repercussions from your peers,
    you truly have my sympathies...

  6. Ed, is it possible to make Channel 63 with a fast forward button? Sometimes I look away from the TV. I have to wait another 45 minutes for it to come around again. This makes it boring and a lot more important messages are not seen. Get together with Ken Davis and David Israel; one of you three oughta be able to figure it out. Keep up the good work; very happy with what you are doing.

    Your fan, Dr. Anonymous.

  8. There has been so many nasty postings lately that I rarely look at the Blog and I am one of the Administrators. I guess I agree with Bob Marshall's comment in keeping the Anon's but they should never be used for personal attacks. Move forward and look at how much we have that is positive. Most of the bashings and negative comments are not correct anyway. That is my thoughts

  9. NO, ABSOLUTELY, NO MORE ANONY-ASS-MOUS !!! BUT, PLEASE, DO NOT LET IT BECOME A "NAZI" BLOG (ie: CV Q^A) !!!

IT MAKES FOR A MINDLESS, VALUELESS, DIALOG; WHICH, ONLY BREEDS STUPIDITY AND DISTENTION !!!

    ---------------------------------
    (just noticed something ......)
    "John's madness and cackling..."
OK, "no-class", you win - now you can be "happy" and own the blog again !!!!

DUH !!! WHAT DID YOU "WIN" ??? !!!

    Should Anonymous remain?

Of course it should remain, however it should also be used by sane persons for sane reasons!

Yes, this does happen and these folks should continue to use anonymous in the way they have been using it.

As I see the situation, this may not be able to happen because of control or lack of control ability by the Administrators.

Once again we may be faced with the situation of the majority being penalized by the actions of a few. This is not correct however it is and has been true.

I do not understand the concept that deems it necessary to demonize someone you disagree with. Why not just agree to disagree on this position and move on with business?

To summarize, yes, anonymous should continue to live and be healthy however once again the few may render this impossible if the Administrators have no ability to control trashing tirades.

  11. At this stage I think there should no longer be anonymous. Some have just abused it and rant and rave because that is all they have in their lives. If a person has something to say they should stand behind it and use their name, so it may ruffle a few feathers. I think the blog is great. Why let a few spoil it for others. Names please.

  12. Now that you know my name, do you really know who I am ?

Anonymous 12:45...You want anonymous gone? why did you post under anonymous ?

How many people know who elaineb is ?

How many people know who Bettiel is ?

    Anonymous 4:47..what's your point ?

How many people know who Ann is ?

I think everybody should be re-registered with their full legal name. Then you won't have to cry about anonymous anymore. And it will only leave you with the option of banning,

    and the circle will be
    complete.

  13. Ed:

    I agree with you 100%. I
    posted my opinion re:
    President Elect and I
    would like you to read
    the feedback. Go to the
    Blog regarding where
    Barack Obama was born.
    Scroll down to The
    Nutmegger and read what
    the Capt wrote. It is
    absolutely uncalled for.

  14. Actually, Rosa, Dave Israel,knows
the identity of we who post under
Nom de Plume's...in my case, I use
an abreviated form of my name, which is Bettie Lee Bleckman....
With the help of many others, I was
successful in restoring Tuesday Night's Karaoke to it's rightful
place, as well as Sunday Night's
Sing-a-Long..I have held the Sect'ry., Pres., and am the current
Treas. of my Association...so that's who I am....

  16. I no longer wish to be a part of the blog because of all the hurtful attacks that I have read.
It is a shame because, as other's say, the information and knowledge shared has been wonderful.
A few are ruining it for all.
    Anonymous - no more.

  17. I would hate to ban Anonymous responses. That was part of the beauty of the BLOG Dave set up. I have made one or two myself. One was a comment on the humorous exchanges between Nutmegger and you, Dave, when you were putting out the puzzles. I took poor Nutmegger's side in what I thought was a humorous remark made funnier coming from Anonymous rather than a named person. Here's a question: With all the technical ability around, could Anonymous responses be put in a separate category? Then those of us who are tired of wading thru all the Anonymouses could simply skip over them. There are some very good Anonymous responses. They would still be there for those who wanted to go thru them all. Also, knowing the setup, contributors really interested in being heard might reconsider always signing under Anonymous.

  19. I am going to quote a post
    that Capt John wrote on
    the Blog.

"MOST OF ALL, I HATE THE
    COWARDS WHO POST
    "ANONYMOUS." THEY ARE
    NOTHING MORE THAN SPINLESS
    ZEROS, WHOSE POST AND
    OPINIONS HAVE ABSOLUTELY
    NO VALIDITY AND MEAN
    NOTHING.

    Using "Capt John" isn't
    that being "anonymous."
    Does anybody know who
    Capt John is? You can
    say well you use "The
    Nutmegger." Most people
    know that Lilly Roberts
    is The Nutmegger. That
    name came about when I
    was doing David's puzzle.
    So Capt John...you are a
    coward like you say the
    anonymous are. You are
    hiding behind Capt John.
    Watch what you post because
you wrote that you are a
    coward.

  20. The situation of several of the blog people are using the same name, make it difficult to discuss something with them because you have seen the name "anonymous" with different opinions in the same blog. Now, if they had "anonymous 1" and "anonymous 2", et cetera, et cetera, we could answer them individually and perhaps get to be civil again.

  21. nut - Can't you do your own thinking - or must QUOTE the MASTER, to have an INTELLIGENT POST !!!

BTW, your "reasoning" (HAHAHAHAHA) IS ABOUT AS SOUND and THOUGHTFUL, AS YOUR INTELLIGENCE - DUH !!!
