Foxit Reader

I am going to replace Adobe acrobat reader (87.6mb) with Foxit reader (3mb). It occurred to me that Chris might also be interested in this, since she has had Adobe headaches in the past. Foxit does NOT have frequent updates. I have heard good things about Foxit. I will let you know if there are any untoward occurrences from this test.
I still have Adobe Flash Player 9 Active X on the pc, I wonder if that is essential!!
Tinkering with the pc is a lot like gambling for me.

Hi Elaine. As I told you, about 10 days ago I updated my Adobe because my computer prompted me to do so. Ever since then, when I turn the computer on, I keep getting these messages about how it is trying to install Photo Gallery and I need to put a CD ram in or something like that. I have to hit cancel for about 4 times every time I get this message. I will write down the exact thing next time I turn the computer on. But this all started after the Adobe update.
Truthfully, I don't even know what Adobe is for. Could someone let me know.
And yes Elaine, I would be very interested in what you think about this Foxit.
If I downloaded this Foxit, could I delete Adobe from my computer? Thanks so much,
Chris

Hi Chrisj,

Adobe Systems Incorporated is a diversified software company. The Company offers a line of business and mobile software and services used by professionals, designers, knowledge workers, high-end consumers, original equipment manufacturer (OEM) partners, developers and enterprises for creating, managing, delivering and engaging with compelling content and experiences across multiple operating systems, devices and media. Adobe distributes its products through a network of distributors and dealers, value-added resellers, systems integrators, independent software vendors and OEMs, direct to end users and through its own Website at www.adobe.com. The Company also licenses its technology to hardware manufacturers, software developers and service providers, and it offers integrated software solutions to businesses of all sizes. Adobe has operations in the Americas, Europe, Middle East and Africa and Asia.

Adobe Acrobat is a complex Document creator (Word Processing program). Virtually all documents produced by the Federal Government are produced in Adobe format; as are those of many States.

The Adobe Reader is a give-away, to entice you into buying the very expensive
Document Creation programs.

Adobe Photopshop is a digital photography program with many expensive and endless upgrades.

Do you need either? that depends on how much document composition you do and how much of a photo-enthusiast you are.

That is what I did. I now have Foxit instead of Adobe and Foxit opens large PDF docs just fine. Lets wait to see what thoughts Dave has, no hurry.

Thanks for the information Dave. My computer use is mostly for writing letters which I do in Word, spreadsheets which I do in Excel. Of course I love to look at the internet and sometimes download forms (example tax form). I do save photos in my computer, most of which when I have the pictures developed I had a CD made and then save any pictures I want to the computer also receive pictures from people that I save to the computer.
What do you think?
(you don't have to answer this right away, maybe sometime down the road. It sounds like you need to rest for a while).
Thanks, Chris
