Good suggestion Elaine. Why couldn't the profits from the Reporter be used to pay someone to deliver the papers?
Did you know the Palm Beach Post pays it's delivery people, to deliver to each doorway every morning, 9 cents per paper? If we sought help for delivery of 29 areas, which might take 30 minutes an area, (based on delivery in the Chatham Area made up of 21 buildings) the job might take 2 to 3 days per month. For 20 hours monthly at a cost of $ 30.00 per hour our monthly expense would be $ 600.00 or $ 7,200.00 annually, much better than someone dying trying to deliver newspapers that lives in the Village especially during the summer months. Would the family just sue UCO for wrongful death
The Reporter SHOULD consider this: 1. Not all areas do pick up. 2 Our Volunteers are an aging group and we have been lucky that none have DIED delivering the paper in all these years. and 3. As the older volunteers become unable or wish to cut back on their volunteering, NO one want that job!
How is it we can receive the Post or other papers without bankrupting the papers and yet UCO has not even explored this issue?
The time has come! C’mon UCO, get with the program!

I understand that the Advocate takes about 10 days to delver their paper in the village. They might be a good choice to deliver the Reporter. I have no idea if they would be interested in the job. I do agree that some time in the future a different distribution system will have to come about in order to guarantee that each resident gets a copy of the paper. That is what advertisers expect.
Even those advertising expect a circulation, not undelivered papers!
Let's get real......."some time in the future"....c'mon Larry.

I understand that some of the papers were delivered Friday.
I have not received mine at 7Pm on Wednesday!

How could you figure out how many papers are not delivered. Not only do whole areas not pick up at UCO, but in my area, we phone individual buildings to come pick up from our central location and some of them do not show up either. Yes we ask for alternate phone numbers, but we cannot sit with a check list for several days. I think the volunteer system is broken.
I have on some occasions suggested to the editors of the UCO reporter that they consider some kind of paid distribution system. However, I assume that it will be up to these same editors in conjunction with the UCO officers to find a solution. Even with the system the Advocate uses there are unread copies on doors all over the village.
I can also repeat what UCO president George Loewenstein told me the other day. If someone has a question about a UCO operation the place to come to ask your questions or bring your suggestions is the UCO office.
Larry - Thx for suggestion to go to UCO. I was at UCO and they asked me for a solution to the undelivereds. They didn’t like my idea, hence my question to Mollie on the blog, because she has original ideas.

WHY, Larry? Aren't you on the Executive Board? Why did we vote for you if we need to go to the UCO office to make recommendations?
Are the Executive Board members forbidden from thinking on their own? Can't you see the problem and be the source of suggesting CHANGE?
C’mon Larry……This problem needs to be addressed, whether you put the issue forward or the “powers that be” read it on the BLOG. Now is the proper time to be discussing problems. Amongst the “many” is that the complaining by UCO volunteers on lack of pick-up, accomplishes NOTHING!
Why does someone need to go to UCO to say, Hey UCO, papers aren’t being delivered…WHY?
Just what are you doing about it? And the answer is …..so far….complaining! Shouldn’t UCO come to the same conclusion…that a change is necessary without someone ‘going to UCO”?

I am glad to hear that the most pressing problem that we have to deal with here in Century Village West Palm Beach is the delivery of the UCO Reporter.
A motion from the floor at the next Delegate Assembly meeting, if voted on and approved, could easily require that an ad hoc Distribution Committee be formed in order to explore the logistical, legal and financial details of hiring a distribution contractor. I think it is a great idea and should be supported by our UCO Delegate Assembly.
IT is NOT the most pressing problem in CV. Public appathy is. The lack of willingness to disagree with wrong positions or judgments is the most pressing.....just like you anon-y-mouse, rather than discuss problems you just critisize.
How's that working for you and the Village?
Even when Elaine went into see UCO, not only did they dismiss her recommendations, but they continue to behave as though there really is NO solution.
It is a good thing we have term limits for UCO elected, otherwise we would seen little improvement over most of UCO's 26 year history!
Fresh views and energy come with every newly elected officer, THANK GOODNESS!
Maybe you should run for VP, just to see how big a job UCO is, and how you must depend on the resident to tell you what is important.
Term limits also serve another purpose by getting people out who were not very effective to begin with.
Some people probably feel that anonymous is only one person while in actuality it is many persons. Dave created "anonymous" in order to boost participation in the forum ,which it has. A vote was taken to keep or eliminate "anonymous" and the total vote was only 30 people. 22 for 8 against. It is also evident that some of the "names" who post here do not like anonymous posters.
Perhaps the matter of anonymous posters should be addressed again.
Any honest disagreement with another's views does not automatically mean we should revote the issue.
I count myself as one voting for anon-y-mouse responces. The problem with showing your ID means the invisible list of enemies, UCO seems unable to acknowledge, will add yet another name..
Accordingly, we wish to help those who need to remain anon-y-mouse, so they won't be liabled as a few of us have. See the three denigrating articles from Mr. President liabling two former officers without one schred of PROOF! There may still be time to avoid a legal resolution of this matter against the Editors of the Reporter, the Reporter, and oh yes our President. I must presume that UCO WANTS a satisfactory resolution?
