CHANNEL 63 ALIVE AND KICKING

Hi All,
After two days of hard work, requiring the efforts of a number of people, Channel 63 is again providing useful information to the Unit Owners; you are all invited to check it out. Hopefully in due course and in cooperations with the new UCO Officers and The Delegate Assembly we will raise the Village Communications Channel to new highs of Service and Entertainment.

The following folks deserve recognition:

Frank Cornish (UCO VP) and Larry Kall who together enabled the entire project to go forward.

Dave israel, Ed Black, Ken Davis; three Technical wannabees who hung in and learned the system operation.

Of particular note and deserving of the highest recognition is; Sadie Lovinger who was trained by Howie Silver. She was trained well and she remembered the complex series of steps necessary to resurrect the channel.

Thanks to you all.

Dave Israel

Way to go, David, with this Channel 63 situation. People were frightened that only Howie could keep it running. You hang out with a great group.

Thank you all.

Thank you for showing us how things are normally done. A group of willing people get togetrher and their combined effort accomplishes whatever goal needs to be accomplished; it proves that any of us are replaceable Thanks to all participants.

What a group of volunteer folks!!

I have looked at this channel for the first time in ages and not only is it back up and running it finally makes sense and is easy to read.

In my opinion there is a room for continuing improvement but WOW what a start.

Thanks for your efforts.

Bob you bring up an interesting question. One feature that IS NOT running at this time is the "CRAWL" that normally runs along the bottom of the screen. Do you and others find the CRAWL effective or irritating? Should the crawl be used only for "special events" like the UCO special meeting and election or a boil water notice rather than be a everyday feature?

Larry, I don't remember asking a question.

However, the question you pose in my opinion should not be resolved by a blog discussion but rather it should be brought up as a discussion item at a meeting of the committee that makes recommendations for Channel 63.

Whatever this change, if any, should be brought to the decision making bodies of UCO.

Discussion here is a good thing but the decision should be made at a different level.

Hi Bob,
Larry's ? can't be resolved here but I see no reason not to discuss it on the blog. Mike

Bob I kinda got drafted into the Channel 63 problem as I had some knowledge of the workings, knew where the program came from, knew some of the parties involved, knew about the modulator and because of my contacts with Comcast. You are correct that you did not pose a question, it was a question in my mind and was looking a what viewers of the channel feel. All future decisions will be made by whatever committee the new UCO president picks. Some people have told me that they find the crawl distraction. I was just looking for any opinion you might have on the subject. I do not plan on making any decision relative to this matter. Without the crawl it appears that the site is easier to read.I am just trying to keep channel 63 operating as best it can for now with the help of the volunteers who came forward this week and asked to help.

I think you people are all wonderful. Thank you for your dedication to our community. I wish you could all have paychecks. If you did, I would tell you to give yourself a raise!

Hi Larry I have an opinion that I posted once before I think:

Larry said on 63 ‘The baker text has the ability to scroll important messages.’ That is great, now that makes sense. If it was reserved for important info people would click on daily to check. Instead it was used for very repetitious things like ticket office hours week after week, so I stopped watching.
If the strip was LEFT BLANK unless there were emergency meetings, or boil water, we would soon learn to pay attention.
The Reporter is 2 weeks late or 1 1/2 months late if you need something put in at the wrong time. 63 crawl seems like the best bet for inportant meeting notices. When it is full of stuff that is easily available elsewhere, yes it is annoying. Thx

Just goes to show what CAN be
accomplished when all heads are
aimed in the same direction!
Special thanks to all involved.
Hopefully, thoese committed, will
make every effort to keep up with the latest technology available..
As for Larry's question regarding
the use of the "Crawl/Ticker Tape"
I find it most distracting, and
would suggest it's limited use..
for "Alerts" only.

Hi All,
The "crawl"/"Baker" stream is known as neither. The correct nomenclature is "Barker Channel".

While it can be used for servicing and emergency announcements; how about this for an idea.

A person, appears on the screen and makes the announcement!!! what a novel concept, people on TV.

Dave, "People on TV". You are right. Perhaps whatever committee ends up operating Channel 63, and I hope that is a committee of many, may look at a talent contest to find Mr.,Mrs.or Ms.,Century Village, West Palm spokesperson. Something maybe like Col. Sanders or Dave Thomas of Wendys. Perhaps a cartoon with a voice over. The possibilities for Channel 63 are endless.
