This is just the beginning of an idea for a divided UCO, 2 parts:
1. The helping/social side of UCO, programs and services, welcome, community rel, workshops, volunteers, COPS, vol lunch, needy residents, health fairs. There is always a place for caring volunteers with time and inclination to deal with the day-to-day dilemmas of our residents. This part should also decide when a function is better done as a club or charity. This part gets best value from our volunteers.
2. The professional service business part of UCO, communication, finance budgets, infrastructure, insurance, investigation, legal, and contracted services cable, transport, security. Could be run by someone with professional level experience and a lot of smarts who understands the increasing complexity of modern business. This part has plenty opportunity for cost savings.

An idea worth looking into. Good thought Elaine. Mike
Elaine:
I agree with Mike. It
definitely is a thoght
to look into.
Sorry about the mispelled
word.
We could improve the investigations currently being handled by an outside contractor and place an employee on campus here to do that very work. Product would be greatly improved and costs would be cut sufficiently to cover the salary expenses.
We would still need our volunteers to help officers returning to pick-up reports, but would have an expert on hand to evaluate and interpret the more difficult reports, as necessary.
Looking at Financial Statement in the UCO Reporter
Investigation 2007, fee income $87K, expenses $39.5K, why was G Lowenstein crying about fees needed to raised to make ends meet last year?
Great Job Frankel and Gerson and assistants, processing even more than the year before.
Could be even more profitable with previous suggestions.
