Sling box

David, do you of anyone using a Sling box unit to connect their home base Cable or Dish television network (Up North presumably) to their computer in CV? Hooking the PC to your CV television set allows one to watch any program available on their North TV set. That's according to the advertisement. Does it really work? Thank you. Andre

Yes, it works; the key requirement is to have a robust Broadband connection to the INTERNET.

The Slingbox is a TV streaming device that enables users to remotely view their house's cable, satellite, or personal video recorder (PVR) programming from an Internet-enabled computer with a broadband Internet connection. It is produced by Sling Media of San Mateo, California.

A Slingbox can redirect up to four live Audio/Video signals from a cable box, satellite receiver, PVR, or other Audio/Video source to the viewer's PC located anywhere nearby, such as in home or office, or, when using a broadband Internet connection, anywhere in the world. To avoid copyright infringement, only one user can access the stream from a Slingbox at a time. This way of accessing content is known as place shifting
