What, I am faint of heart. No one has broached the topic of the bus schedule changed as of 15 June ---too bad couldn't wait until everyone could have read it in the Reporter /have a copy. or am I the only one in this vast blog who uses the bus? could be.

ok I just saw on 63- posted on bulletin boards? sched posted on busses? copies avail at UCO -
A bus schedule change!... TWO busses have stopped going to Publix after 1:30 (but the evening schedule DID NOT change) plus FOUR other busses will still make the stop at Publix, instead of SIX. I was at a meeting were a SUMMER schedule was presented to the bus committee which is made up of a majority of bus riders. The schedule would have saved the community about 510 miles which equals approximately in dollars for the summer schedule of about $6,000. Not counting the shut down of those busses. But, the riders didn't even want to try it.NO! it was told that if they didn't add a late afternoon bus they would not accept the proposal. So after the chair, and others made the adjustments the committee voted for the schedule.
This last meeting June 15, a petition was handed to the chair, at the meeting,
NOT VERY NICE!
Maybe we should think of a way to streamline the bus schedule just as ALL of us have to change our schedules because of GAS PRICES... MAYBE we should all be tightening our belts to economize for the sake of the WHOLE COMMUNITY. With a bus contract of 1 million a year plus fuel every month of about $10,000 ..TIME FOR A CHANGE!!
Barbara
If you people don't get real and start cutting our cost back to $200, CV will go out of business and there will be NO bus service.
Cut the bus schedule in half...or more.
Take a clue from the national scene; let CV go bankrupt and have the court appoint a professional manger.
CV can't go "bankrupt." Maybe UCO could. Anyway, professional management is another topic.
NO NO NO NO NO it isn't !!!!
CV is making stupid stupid decisions that are costing the people million and millions and millions.
STOP IT !!!!
or soon no one will buy a unit and I'll be stuck paying for maintaining 24 units all by myself !!!!!!
I believe you would too. You would be like Charlton Heston in The Omega Man.
I agree with Barbara's POV...
The time has come for REFORM on all of our expenses..Transportation
being the largest, must be re-examined, in particular, daily TRIPS to Publix, which I as a driver, do not engage in...
being younger and stronger than some of the frail seniors who use the bus as do I to go grocery shopping I can tote what I need for the week - they make daily trips 1. it's somewhere to go 2. they are unable to carry very much on a single trip ---not speaking in defense - just an observance - unfortunately i could not attend the emerg transp meeting but plan to hit the next reg. meeting. I have been on buses full to the gills and also been the sole passenger.

Dear Mag....I think the busses are GREAT...but we are talking originaly about a summer schedule only...Many times the busses have one or none on them. We would have still FIVE busses stopping at PUBLIX and then 3 of them stopping for only 3 runs in the afternoon That would have meant Bus #1 would still go to Publix 8x a day, bus #2 5x a day, #3 8x a day, Mall bus 5x a day, Express bus 6x a day and the shuttle bus also goes to Walmart Market 7x a day. That is a lot of shopping a ...Just for 5days you would have to change your times for shopping, Three afternoon bus runs would have been cut. We all want the busses but it has to be streamlined a little. Especially in the summer. The committee could have TRIED the change in the the 3 internal busses for 3 runs in the afternoon?
Let's ALL try to work together!
Barbara
`Barb--I have no prob w/ the new sched ---and am all for saving a buck where we can -- and sometimes we just need to adjust our personal scheds in hard times/slow times ---something --change---can be difficult for those set in their ways and who feel "entitled"---there will always be bickering, complaining and accusations and of course --the complaint that services are cut because the snowbirds are gone and the year round residents "don't count" ---I've only been here six months but I'm sure the song hasn't changed in many a year. Savings during the summer can help get us thru the rest of the year. a penny saved and all that jazz!
Hi All,
Interesting thread; but if you want to save a minimum of $25,000.00 per year; stop allowing the busses to idle for 15 minutes at the Clubhouse curb and for 10 minutes while stopped at Publix.
The Governments of Canada, California and the EPA here in America ALL agree on a basic fact; if you are going to be idling for more than 2 minutes, you save money by turning off the engine.
By the way, you also help save the environment.

SOUNDS GOOD TO ME DAVE!
But, as you know the bus company will not do this...and ask the committee????

Hi Barbara,
Jun 19, 2009 10:27:00 PM,
I have been before the Committee and presented documentation which was ignored, as has Ed Black.
The Committee Chair, advocates for the absurd position of the owner of the Bus Company, who continues to burn our Unit Owners money by letting the busses idle for no reason.
The solution is simple:
1) Make it clear that Capri will never have another contract in this Village.
2) Educate the Committee Chair (yet again)on the Science behind the issue; and if the Chair proves to be ineducable; remove said Chair.
