darn outage comcast again

5pm / power went off/ tv went off/ tv on -can't get any channels-only OnDEmand flipping on - anybody else having issue?
...............................................................................
Your BLOGMEISTER suggests;

A power glitch of any type can cause "The Box" to lose synchronization with the Head End.
The glitch can be the result of lightning strikes miles away.

When power returns, please unplug the box from the wall, count 10, and plug it back in. It will then reboot like the special purpose computer it is. Be patient, as the box is downloading data consisting of important settings.

The power went out for a second, but I still have tv coverage. Maybe it is because I did not get the box.
When I hear all these problems, I am glad I have just the regular cable with no box.

Mine went out earlier, rebooting got me the screen with little TV drawing and 'Atlantic (something). I left it, made dinner, came back there was On Demand, i pressed channel number keys and it was fine. It does take time to reconnect fully. A watched box never reconnects!!(joke)

Main reason for going with Comcast
instead of the " dish " thing?
I'll try to quote our cable "guru"
Mr. Israel. ( UCO reporter, probably May).
"..when it rains, the over the air
T.V. may become kind of grainy. And it rains quite a lot in Florida."
The quote is not exact. Sorry, get the paper.
Excellent job mr. Izrael. You were
right. It rains.
If You ever go to a bar like Rooneys with a bunch of
"dish" tv's, You'll get uninterrupted tv service when it rains, very nice picture.
I know, You do not plan on staying on this earth much longer - what made You to stick us with a Comcasts lousy service for the next 10 years? Some kind of a revenge?

Hi A Nony Mouse / j.b.
Jul 27, 2009 8:22:00 PM,

Perhaps, Rooney's can afford the 24" dual dish diversity reception equipment that is required to mitigate Rain Fade. Perhaps they don't mind replacing the Low noise Amplifiers blown out by lightning strikes.

The bulk contracts offered by Direct TV and Dish Network would not allow for diversity reception.

Hundreds of millions of People globally enjoy Cable TV with Cable Boxes; in the USA, Comcast alone has 25 million customers.

My box works flawlessly; yes, there is a bit of a learning curve to negotiate 4 or 5 buttons and adjust to the box; but once you have mastered the box it will be second nature; just like your Remote control on your TV, before the Box ever arrived.

It is inconceivable to me that "The greatest generation" is incapable of adopting Cable TV, a staple in this country for 50 years. I suspect that the vast majority of our Villagers are doing just fine.

I am up north my daughter several months ago had a cable box added we had storms after storms at times lost power seconds other 10-20 to half hour I know it is not comcast I also know all situations are different she never had to do anything about the box? She did have them put several coax cables they are latest install to several tv's easy for her but could be monumental at CV?, sometimes we use store bought and add them to our TV's
there's may be different? Best to everyone............
To anoyumus j. b. those comments to Dave is totally out of Line, what you channel thru your cable is cloudy, stormy and contains raindrops....

I was in favor of having no more Anonymouses when this question was recently brought up on the blog, but after reading Anonymous's 7/28, 12:51 a.m. reply to Anonymous JB and collapsing in laughter so good for the soul, I'm not sure I want to miss some of the exchanges.

Dave, by the time I read your instructions, and on the phone almost through to comcast, voila! cable heal thyself and it did. didn't have to do anything. I must still have Northern Big City Person Who Recently Moved to Florida Syndrome ---self prescribed cure - take a breath and wait a minute. ahh, I feel better already.

I guess some buildings might not have been wired well for Comcast several years ago when the whole village had to upgrade its wiring, hence the current complaints. The few problems reported are no real issue. The proliferation of little dishes all over the village by Associations not paying attention sets up an eyesore and hurricane damages later.

To the "screaming" anonymous.
Before You comment, repeat a famous line by H. Mencken.
" Nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence
of the American public."
I don't think he knew You, but he
did speak of You.

I haven't picked up my box yet- my wife went down to the condo last week and reported that our TVs worked fine without them. We have older CRT TVs, and they are only in use forty to sixty days a year. Should I bother getting the box? What am I missing, besides music channels, freezeups and reboots?

Anonymous said...

Nothing personal don, but the cable box is probably too complicated for your needs.

Right, I have digital TV and LCD flatscreens at my home in NY, with the usual annoying freezeups, but at CV I watch much less TV, so channels and digital picture are less important to me. I was just curious how many and which channels I am missing by foregoing the box.

Hi Don4060
Jul 28, 2009 3:08:00 PM,

The box allows access to the Digital Starter Tier.
The principal feature of Digital Starter, is Video On Demand; Channel 1.

It has many free movies, shows and other free features. This tier is encrypted and thus requires the box to access it.
