VISTA BLUES

I have been getting a deluge of bad luck (including the Patriots.) So here I am again with a new pc and Vista. The most popular FAQ on Vista is "Can I uninstall it". Ahah!
I refuse to buy $150 new software to go with Vista.
I refuse to pay HP to solve their own problems on my old pc.
I refuse to pay MS svc pac 2 ditto.
I paid $40 for an unreturnable transfer cable which will not work because I do not have svc pac 2 etc.
If anyone has been down the Vista road transferring WP docs from XP let me know if you are available for occasional questions.
I could just use notepad or join CVCC! TIA

Hi Elaine,
Hmmm! I detect an unhappy camper!
Ok; I have VISTA ultimate X64. Yes, there is a learning curve, but in due course things do come together. I also have an HP computer.
First of all, how much Core (memory) do you have? VISTA is really the ultimate in Bloatware and it takes LOTS of memory (I had to expand to 4Gbyte of SDRAM before things worked smoothly).
On the question of Word Documents, I simply put them all on a CD on my XP machine (yes I had SP2, it was free when first published) and placed the CD in my VISTA machine and read them in and they were converted with no problem.

Finally, it is possible to wipe VISTA and load XP/SP2, not for free however and I doubt that Microsoft will support XP for much longer.

Oh my gosh, the gal is back! She knows what she wants and goes out and gets it. Now we'll have some interesting chat! Anyone for coconut water????
Welcome back Elaine.

Dear Elaine B:

I use Computers for Rent on Military Trail, north of Okeechobee and south of Community, with all my computer questions. The owner is a very friendly person. He will tell you exactly what it will cost to eliminate Vista from your PC and not one penny more. On some PCs, it is very easy; others, more difficult. Try him; his name is Russ.

Thanks for all replies. I have 3 GB DDR2 and 160 GB HDD, I do not need a lot of memory except maybe when I am carried away with Google Earth + photo. I was able to load Svc Pac 2 (old machine) and Word 2000 (new machine), so I am gaining on initial problems. But it is early days, lots of experimenting.
I would still like to repair the old HP I certainly have enough back up discs and flash drive (and a headache).
