Advisory Committee Questions

“Properly noticed meetings” are the issue. UCO has no clue just how few folk watch channel 63, unless it is to replace their sleeping medications. The view, that this may be their, intention could be reason. That could lead to Executive Board decisions on a more regular basis.

Since all that UCO does is to “Control Common Elements”, in a Condominium Community, they should provide 15 days advance NOTICE of meetings accompanied by proposed agendas. NOTICE cannot be just listing the meeting on the channel 63 “sleeping pill”.

Proper NOTICE of special meetings should require Bulletin Boards for all 309 Associations, the UCO reporter, and all WPRF Bulletin Boards. OUR CONDOMINIUM PROCEDURES REQUIRE PROPER NOTICE OF UNIT OWNER MEETINGS WITH AGENDAS, SO HOW CAN UCO FAIL SO MISERABLY TO COMPLY WITH “PROPER NOTICE”

Unless UCO makes a serious effort to provide “Proper Notice” for all common element expenses, anyone who challenges this issue in court will likely win. Creating yet another court case due to lack of proper leadership at the top!

If UCO were in professional management hands, these kinds of failures would NEVER occur.

How may we expect change to ever occur, when the ambivalence displayed and lack of protestation by the masses over the removal of one 87-year-old grandmother from one of our “common element expenses” that she fully paid for in advance? The Court case ruled that the Transportation system was and remains a common expense and such “selective enforcement” is discriminatory to not CONSISTANTLY require an I.D. to obtain a ride on this system.

We need major change at UCO and neither quorum count or term limits are even close to the top of the list.

Pandering to the masses, chanting that 11 Million dollars is what we expect from arbitration is probably at the top! Let’s begin there, and get a reality check before we waste all potential recovery on chasing this fantasy! With the unconditional support of George Loewenstein and Company, Mr. Solomon, the chief cheerleader was defeated. That should be a wake-up call at UCO. Was It?

Thats my view, what is yours?

Ed,
Notice of Special Meetings of the Delegate Assembly should be posted on every association's bulletin board at least 14 days prior to the meeting. I find Channel 63 toatlly inadequate for such purposes. No one should have to be fixed to the television for up to an hour in order to get meeting information. Wouldn't it be more proper to program meeting information into the almost endless scroll of club advertisements at maximum 10 minute intervals? Also, all committee meetings should be listed with the telephone operators at UCO so that with one call any interested party could get scheduling information? Since we are required to give advance notice of our intention to attend these meetings, a complete schedule should also be made readily available with the same phone call.

Hi Randall

Show me in the By-laws just where UCO obtained authority to “REQUIRE” advance notice of intent to attend?
Show me in the Association By-Laws where such a requirement “exists”.

How is this any different than the ongoing power struggle of “EGO” to CONTROL! What is the purpose of such a “Selectively Enforced” requirement, for which UCO is well known?

UCO’s by-laws permit anyone to “just show up”, promulgated by the interpretation of the Sunshine Laws provision.

It would seem our leadership is encouraging the masses to TELEPHONE our leadership at home on Saturday and Sunday, so one may “be permitted” to attend meetings on Monday morning!
Should we list the PRESIDENTS home phone numbers so we may comply with this unnecessary requirement?

What utter nonsense it is to “require advance notice of our intent to attend”! To what end? Will our illustrious leader change the meeting room to permit increased capacity or just reject the few who overcrowd the smaller room? Shouldn’t he have already provided for increased capacity, without an advanced head count?
We really have much more important issues requiring debate!

Like: the Depositions ongoing, and whether our legal “team” believes our case has become stronger or WEAKER! Should the case seem weaker, do we not have right to know? Should we be back at the negotiation table?
We should review the CH2MHILL report to add to the evaluation of continuing this arbitration.
We should also present a review of the Shore line/soil erosion facts to the Delegate Assembly NOW, before hurricane season and while the seasonal residents are still able to attend!

What, are we waiting for?

I would like to suggest that the Advisory Committee take on the responsibility of posting notices of special meeting on all association bulletin boards.

Is not the UCO reporter the OFFICIAL UCO site for information relative to meetings?

It is also suggested that perhaps the issue of "proper notice of meetings" Is NOT the most important issue that our residents are concerned with. That there are other issues and concerns of more importance to our residents. Why not ask them which issues are of the most important to them?

Dear Ed,Please allow me to inform you that proper notice falls under the heading of living up to FS 718 and legal notice. By now it must be apparent to you that none of that applies to UCO. Just because they take Association money and utilize it for WHATEVER they see fit with no responsibility for  accounting for those  monies does not mean they fall under FS 718, or does it ?

What is the Advisory Committee, who is on it, does it only deal with amendments to the UCO bylaws? When does it meet, regularly?

Is there a lot of overlap on these Cmtes? Are lists of members available?
Executive Board
Officers’ Committee
Operations Committee

With all due respect, would you guys try to stick to the thread and not wander off into a swamp of various complaints about various cmtes on various issues.
Ed, I think you are getting wrapped around the axle on the request to call if attending a meeting. I like to call that way I verify the place and time. If there is really a mtg on Monday a.m. just go for gosh sakes. Look confused, make excuses just like they do. Tell'em you did call. there are more important issues.

Special meetings are only called in emergencies!
How could all that notifiication happen in that case. I do think a sandwich board at each entrance would help in many situations.
