INSTALLING THE RF TRANSMITTER

IR to RF to IR TRANSCEIVER
Hi all,
There have been some questions about second, third and even fourth TV sets and the fact that our contract, initially, only provides one Set Top Converter. This post will present a little trick for helping to overcome this issue.
The little black hemispherical object pictured above is an RF to IR Transceiver.
OK, what is this all about; your remote control that will operate your new Cable box emits an IR signal when talking to the box. IR simply means an Infra Red signal. This IR signal operates Line of Sight (LoS) only.
RF indicates a Radio Frequency signal which at the right frequency operates through walls and windows.
So, if you split the signal coming from the Cable box and run one Coaxial wire to, say, the living room TV and one to the TV in, say, the bedroom, you now merely need a kit which converts the IR signal normally emitted by the remote control to an RF signal.
This RF signal will be picked up by the Transceiver pictured above. This little device will be placed directly in front of the Cable box and when the device converts the received RF signal back to IR, your cable box will respond by changing the channel.
Below is a reference to such a kit; there are others, but this one will give you the idea. Other brands may be available locally at Radio Shack or similar store.

Before you go out and buy this, or similar kit, let me run this idea past Comcast Tech. for compatibility with their equipment.

With same splitter, would a 12-step program work, Walk 6 steps to room with box (STB), change channel, walk 6 steps back to other TV?

No doubt, unless you are 90 years old, have arthritis and want to surf thru a bunch of channels; that's lots of stepping back and forth.
Of course for some it's much needed exercise.

Once again, The Set Top Converter, and when available, two DTA boxes are included in the contract along with their remote controls. Thus they are provided FREE OF EXTRA CHARGE.
The remote control tuning extender, discussed in this thread, have NOTHING to do with the contract. If you wish to purchase such an OPTIONAL device, that is your individual decision.

At no time was it stated that we could have a contract, providing bulk services for less than the current rate.
The statement was that CSI "would save us money"
Since the entertainment content package which we will receive, retails off Campus, for $55.00 per month; I believe that promise has been fulfilled.
Yes, normally there is a rental fee for every piece of equipment; because of the size of the Village, these fees are miniscule and rolled into the contract, at great savings.
We cannot possibly wait until "it" is "up and running" to inform our unit owners, confusion would be rampant.
Yes, there are changes occurring that are beyond our control, however, every effort is being made to inform our Villagers about the process. This to shall pass!
High expectations are acceptable; Magic is very difficult.

Any smart negotiator could have gotten us basic cable with set top boxes for $15 and a 2% yearly increase.

It certainly is interesting that some folk like to wait until the job is done to comment how much better a job they could have done.
These poorly inform folk never show at the meetings because they don’t want the facts to interfere with their opinion, especially those who have such confidence in their uninformed opinion as to HIDE behind Anonymous postings.
Naturally, we just ignore such ravings, but it is satisfying to at least respond, occasionally.
GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT!
I'm sure if I search this joke has been around awhile...
Sam died.
His will provided $30,000 for an elaborate funeral.
As the last guests departed the affair, his wife, Sarah turned to her oldest and dearest friend.
"Well, I'm sure Sam would be pleased," she said.
"I'm sure you're right," replied Jody, who lowered her voice and leaned in close.
"How much did this really cost?"
"All of it," said Sarah. "Thirty thousand."
"No!" Jody exclaimed. "I mean, it was very nice, but $30,000?"?
Sarah answered, "The funeral was $6,500. I donated $500 to the synagogue.
The whiskey, wine and snacks were another $500. The rest went for the Memorial Stone."
Jody computed quickly.
"$22,500 for a Memorial Stone? My God, how big is it?"
"Two and a half carats"
Anonymous is a joke too.

"Smart Negotiator" Wow! It is really unfortunate that we did not have the benefit of your anonymous brilliance at our Committee meetings.
