Anybody have any idea on how many of the 7854 units in CV have a computer ? How many of the 7854 units use a computer only for E Mail?

The short answer can be derived from statistics developed by the Census Bureau spinning out of the 2000 Census.

28.6% of persons age 65 and higher use a computer.
21.2% of the same demographic use the INTERNET.

The Census Bureau Graphic showing Computer and INTERNET usage by age and disability may be seen at the URL embedded in the Title; simply click on it.

Larry, please consider accepting the INVITATION which I will re-send to you; this will enable you to originate new Posts (new subjects).

Dave,

It is my understanding that a VERY large part of our community have no computers, have no idea how to use them, and receive very little information about what goes on in the village by e mail or other computer use.

Not everybody that gets the UCO Reporter read it. There also appears to be a large numbers of CV residents that have NO idea on what goes on here, or how things are operated or how things are run as as long as they can go to shows, dances and the pool when they are here.

In talking with Comcast I found out that there are NOT thousands of people with hight speed internet here. There are no statistics on how many CV residents have DSL or dial up service so it is difficult to know how many people in the village receive any information on what goes on here by use of a computer.

Hi Larry,
The only evidence I can quote is that developed in the Census. Hence statistically you are certainly correct. Short of a survey, we will never know.
The point is, it is the ONLY unrestricted channel we have to enable folks to "speak" their mind without having a Political filter in the way.
For those who have computers and wish to engage in the BLOG experience, there is no limit to what might be as far as Communications is concerned. The Computer Club would be well served to help folks get on the WWW and speak their mind.

The Computer, gives to the "Average Citizen" a Power unlike any in recorded History! It provides instant access to INFORMATION, with a capital "I", The ability to "Reach out" is incredibly empowering!!

As it states in the Lobby of the CIA; "You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free"

A survey of 2 bldgs that I know, shows 7% of units have computers. Dave will tell you the risks of small samples. This is enough people to post notices (emailed from UCO) on the bulletin boards. How many members are there in the computer club? Another SWAG would be double that!

There are 5 units in my 26 unit building with computers. Across the way has 4 and next to us there are 6 (all 26 unit bldg's) There are about 500 members in the Computer Club. I gathered email addresses from the workers in the UCO office and there were only 3 that did not have a home computer. I don't think we would be too far off at 20% of the village with computers

Where I live there are 24
units and only 4 have the
internet.

Hi Nutmegger,
even though that seems small, it is over 16.5 percent. I really believe that in almost 7900 units, we have between 1500 to 1600 computers
