": It might be time to revisit the Anonymous comments permitted by the prior vote. Especially since those folk seem to believe we prefer personal attacks!
Sometime in August we agreed to stop bashing in concert with the Administration’s effort to do the same. Many believed this was in the best interest of this community.
For a short while this was maintained, however that recently changed and once again the naysayer and virulent complainers resumed their posturing for bashing. You might think this is like a sporting event, to see just who is better equipped to achieve the award from his/her peers, as “best @ bashing for all time” award.
Most o f the commentary, by some, seem mean spirited and seem to accomplish nothing. Why bother, except to demonstrate just how out of touch you may be, in assisting this village to be the best place to live for all residents. I believe they too could help this village, by attending meetings and making positive recommendations to help us overcome obstacles we will face in the days and years ahead.
We would all benefit from your participation. How does anyone enjoy denigrating the selflessness of a volunteer who gives of his/her time, talent and expertise to help others? Could it be they don’t feel they have to help or contribute to the betterment of our lifestyle here in Century Village, if so, why not?This village would be a much more expensive place to live if not for our hundreds of volunteers, each in their own way trying to support the “greater good” and make this community a better, safer, inexpensive place to live. So how about you? Won’t you spend a little of your time “contributing” to improving this village instead of wasting your time criticizing it?

Your BLOGMEISTER suggests;
A power glitch of any type can cause "The Box" to lose synchronization with the Head End.
The glitch can be the result of lightning strikes miles away.
When power returns, please unplug the box from the wall, count 10, and plug it back in. It will then reboot like the special purpose computer it is. Be patient, as the box is downloading data consisting of important settings.

Our association (Sheffield N) currently allows renters and allows the same person to own more than one unit. Can anyone tell me this (hopefully authoritatively): If we go through the correct process of notifying all owners of a business meeting with this on the agenda, including providing a proxy, is it legal to change the bylaws making it so that one person can own only one unit? If so, would you recommend having an attorney draw up the revised wording to the affected parts of the bylaws, or is this something we could do ourselves?
If it would be legal to make the change, I suppose a husband could still own one unit and the wife a second? We are not looking to change our bylaws to ban all renting; only to limiting ownership to one condo unit. A few of our unit owners wanted to know about this.

I have no knowledge of the letter that offended Phil, and after reading his piece I still have no knowledge. Phil adds a variety of gratuitous insulting assumptions - UCO Reporter what were you thinking! Phil could have printed the letter and answered points in a civilized manner but he was too busy winning the war of 1800s. Phil used almost a whole page for a one-sided attack – that is yellow journalism.

A few points to consider, as regards the fencing of the Golf Course.

Of course, each Association bordering on the Golf Course would have to concur, by written agreement; BUT this is an issue that impacts the entire Village and thus should be voted as a Common expense.

I have run some preliminary numbers;

Measurement of the length of the fence, from satellite imagery, provided by GOOGLE Earth indicates that the distance is approximately 6500 feet, more or less.

Depending on the exact Chain Link fencing selected, and there are many variables; the installed cost for 8 foot fencing would be at least $15.00 per linear foot; Gates would be about $50.00 per linear foot. thus the nominal cost would be no less than $100,000.
This is exclusive of "Climb Resistant" landscaping, which I cannot begin to estimate.

At an emergency meeting on Friday, 16 July 2009, in UCO spaces; a PBSO Officer with 25 years experience on the job stated, that it would be unwise to be in a reactive state, waiting for every move by the owner of the Golf Course.
His recommendation was simple; Budget, plan, and move ahead proactively.
I add my voice to his, in support of the Great Golf Course Fence project.
Having said this, a very significant point is raised by the Pro-Active Committee to save the Golf Course. This point regards Southampton's legal standing provided by the fact that the Southampton PUD (Planned Unit Development) includes both Southampton and the Golf Course on Plat 14 of Century Village. Clearly, the placement of a fence will tacitly indicate to the owner of the Golf Course that we now feel that there is no such connection. It is the opinion of the UCO Attorney that the fact that both are on the same Plat gives Southampton definite standing to say yes or no to the proposed Development. Additionally, there is the Plat Restriction assigning the Golf Course to remain, In Perpetuity, for Golf course purposes only.
It is fair to say at this point that, "the fat is in the fire"!!

The CV Fund is badly in need of a computer on which to store our records and produce the correspondence required to obtain grants and funds from charitable organizations and individuals. Can anyone help? We are looking for a laptop with Windows XP. A laptop is needed, because the computer will need to be operated at different locations.
A used machine would be fine so long as it is a laptop with Windows XP.

Does you Condo Board of Directors provide you with annual fiancial statements? Does you Board advise you of the financial condition of you Association. If not, ASK . You have a right to access the accounting and financial records of you Association. Refer to FS 718.111(12). If the Board does not give you the financial info that you ask for, the ask WHY NOT, IT IS MY RIGHT.
Does the Rover car and its driver know how to use a defibrillator? So that he can help in a distress call having a heart attack. If they do not have a defibrillator in the car with them — why not? They would be a great lifesaver.
There is something I do not understand about Gov. Crist’s veto of the changes to the Condominium Act as explained in Jerry Karpf’s column in the July UCO Reporter. If the bill passed so overwhelmingly in the House and Senate (two votes short in the House and 100% in the Senate), how is that this was not enough to easily override the Governor’s veto?

We just got our July UCO Reporter magazines. On page 11, George Franklin says in his Safety column that the number one health problem in Century Village is falling. I don’t doubt he is right, and it is good to be warned. But can his statistics be right? He says 30% of us will fall in the next year. Going by my own lack of surefootedness, I don’t doubt this is true. Assuming 12,000 residents in the Village (in season), this means 3600 will fall during the next year. Then, George says, of this 30% (the 3600), three out of every ten (again 30%) will die in the next year as a result of the fall. This would mean 1080 of our 12,000 residents, or 9% of the Village population, die every year from this specific cause. Is my math wrong or has George made a mistake in his percentages? If true, this is pretty scary.

Re previous post. Here is one approach, you could get a sign from Kauff.We found it helpful when Veolia marked the dumpsters according to who was paying for them, however, we share since dumpsters are generally equidistant from 2 associations. We have ‘monitors’ who put raccoon bars back up! And write ‘no plastic bags please’ on the recycle bins. Also it is logical when one dumpster is full to take trash to another… If you have nasty people it makes a bad neighborhood, too bad.

Hi all,
Do you have a box like the one above on your property? Probably you do; and it is an ideal place for Honey Bees to make a hive. Honey Bees, are for the most part not aggressive, unless they are "Africanized" Bees.
Give them a wide berth, and they will not bother you.
Also, the common Honey Bee is a Federally protected species due to the massive losses of Bees due to Colony Collapse Disorder.
Rather than killing these Bees, consider engaging a Bee Keeper to come and collect them up; the charge should be about $100.00. If you can find one who will do it for less, please let me know at nsasigint@comcast.net

Could someone enlighten me or direct me to the appropriate source regarding use of the Veolia black dumpsters? We have been experiencing an unpleasant situation and it has escalated as of late. A building across from us insists even tho the dumpster at the edge of our assn prop indicates our building name and letter - that anyone can dump in it and they have been overloading it with refuse to the point where we are unable to put our trash in ---the lids are left open inviting a rodent issue. The pres. of the offending assn insists the dumpsters are for common use ---even tho that bldg has a designated dumpster ----any info will be appreciated. thanks.
I am asking for the help of all who read this Blog who may have witnessed this accident in the parking lot or who may have a neighbor whose front of the car has been recently pushed in, since Thursday. Carol arrived at the clubhouse and entered our meeting room at 12:30PM as I was sitting on the side of the front door to greet prospective members or new members coming in for their badges. I looked at the clock when she arrived to see what time it was. Carol came in very happy introducing her friend as she walked. During the meeting she was asked to leave and go outside. She came back to get her friend. Her car was no longer it it's handicapped spot but in the middle of the road facing south. It had been hit in the front as you can see and pushed into the road. Carol's steering wheel would have been sutned from coming into the spot or it would have been pushed straight out. A police officer accused her of knocking the sign down in front of where she was parked and then backed up and left her car in the middle of the road and calmly went in to her meeting. Carol is not a calm per under stress. The officer took her friend aside to find out what happened as she did not believe Carol and then turned around and pointed at Carol and said, you know what happeded, tell me. George Lowenstein and Anita Cruz were there and were quite upset that Carol had knocked down the sign. I was not there but know Carol and the next day she was still pretty shakey from the experience of being grilled by the officer. I went with Carole from our club to take pictures of her car at the shop and in the parking lot. Too bad I did not see where the sign had fallen after the accident. The 2 pictures tell a story. One shows a small piece of Carol's grill and the other shows how the sign fell. The grill piece and other small pieces are on Carol's spot. The bit of the sign that is left show that the sign was knocked down from the opposite facing side and the broken off part was dragged on the tar and over the blue barrier and onto Carol's hood. At 1:20 a woman reported that Carol hit her back bumper and at that time wanted $1,000. for damages. Carole was in a meeting at 1:20 with all in the room to see. I believe that the woman was parked in a spot with Carol in the middle of the road and instead of going to get a guard to get the car, Carol's, out of the way of getting her car out of the spot proceeded to back up and scrapped her bumper on Carol's back bumper as Carol has a white rub on her bumper. I think if Carol had hit her the rub would of Carol's paint would be on the white Chevy not the Chevy's paint on Carol's car just as someone else's paint seems to be on the front of Carol's car. As well Carol's friend told Carol on the way from the insurance office after the accident that she smelled smoke. Since Carol's car was in park I believe she either has transmission damage or damage to her brake due to being forced back. I cannot understand an officer not seeing what the evidence seems to show, she was just interested in getting Carol to confess her crime. Please, take the time to look at your neighbor's cars to see if they have damage or if a car is in for repairs. I think someone wanted to step on the brake on instead stepped on the gas, went over the blue barrier hit the sign down and over the next barrier and into Carol's car and panicked and fled. They may also have scraped the bottom of their car on the barrier as there seems to be a small gouge out of the barrier that still looks clean. Hi all,

Re: Boats and Watercraft
Over the last several months, an issue has arisen regarding the storage of sailboats and other types of watercraft on the lakes and on the shoreline around the lakes within the West Palm Beach Century Village®.
As many of you know, UCO is in the process of initiating a shoreline restoration project throughout the entire village. In furtherance of that project and to clarify W.P.R.F., Inc.'s position regarding this matter, I have been requested by the UCO Operations Committee to advise the Century Village® condominium boards of directors and residents that all privately owned sailboats and other watercraft must be removed from the lakes and the shoreline around the lakes within six (6) weeks of the date of this letter.
The purpose of this letter is to give sufficient advance notice to allow all boat and watercraft owners to make other arrangements for the storage and use of their watercraft outside of the West Palm Beach Century Village®.
The only boats and/or watercraft that will be allowed to be used within Century Village® will be those that are owned by W.P.R.F., Inc. and located in the appropriate sailboat area outside of the main Century Village® Clubhouse.
The presence of privately owned boats and other watercraft will present a very serious hazard to life and property if a hurricane, tornado or other natural disaster should strike our community.
Therefore, it is imperative that the removal of all boats and watercraft be permanent. There will be no exceptions. Please keep in mind that the prohibition of boats and other watercraft is contained in the original condominium documents as well as in the 1999 model documents that were adopted by many of the associations within Century Village®.
Additionally, the cost of maintenance and repairs to the interior lakes and canals was made a part of the operational rent under the Millennium UCO Amendment to the Long Term Lease and the Operating Agreement attached thereto.
Anyone failing to remove their sailboat and/or other watercraft from any lake and/or shoreline within the West Palm Beach Century Village® before September 19, 2008 shall have their watercraft removed by W.P.R.F., Inc. and stored off site.
The cost of removal and storage will then be added to the owner's W.P.R.F., Inc. account.

I had my installation sched for today 7/2 2-5 pm / 6pm and still no show! i had even purchased addl tier for 19.95 w/no installation fee ----tried calling the Rob S. # but his mailbox full / tried the Roseann # and l/m there ---the 847 -4792 is for techie issues after installation but I l/m there also/ also tried 1800comcast/live chat to no avail. I am usually not a complainer but since I managed to sit around waiting both for appt and for installation to say the least I am disappointed ---plus I had to listen to a neighbor screaming this a/m when she had a disagreement/set to with the comcast man ---I know it's a big job but how ridiculous not even to get a phone call or be able to reach anyone. whine whine whine ---all I know is - I better not get a bill for something i don't yet have! If anyone has suggestion for my next move, thrill me and post please! thanks/

I would like to know why two pools at the club house, the guest pool and the indoor pool are open til 10:00 pm, and the resident pool closes at sun down ? I dont think this is right. Also the pool at Hastings is not open till ten pm also. It use to be! I know myself and other people I have talk to would like to have the pools open till 10 pm. I went to Anita Cruz office to ask her but she was not there. Her helpers gave me what i thought was a answer that did not make much sence to me, something about lighting. There is lighting in the pool and around the pool im talking about the resident pool now. It does not have the lights as bright as guest pool but you can see. Now there is no life guards at any of the pools so what is the difference if one pool is lite more then another. It sure would be nice to swim later in the evenings on the hot summer night in the resident pool.

424.1.9.8.4
If night operation is proposed, 6 footcandles (60 lux) of light shall be provided on the pool deck and the water feature area. Lighting that may be exposed to the feature pool water shall not exceed 15 volts, shall be installed in accordance with manufacturer's specifications and be approved for such use by UL or NSF.

The LUX unit may be strange to some, it is a measure of the apparent intensity of light. By "apparent" is meant as perceived by the "normal" human eye. More confusing yet is that the eye perceives light of different colors (wavelengths) differently (at different intensities). Hence, Yellow light at a given intensity appears brighter than Blue light at the same intensity.
Watt is a measure of Power; hence conversion is a bit complex. Nominally, 60 LUX is equivalent to .008334 Watts/Square foot. So, over an area of Pool Deck and Pool of, say, 10,000 square feet; Code requires the Irradiance equivalent to that produced by an effective power of an 83.34 Watt bulb over the entire area, a rather significant requirement.
