MEDIATION SETTLEMENT REDUX

Hi All,
In a Comment stream;

Sue Cohen writes:

I do hope someone passed a towel to our esteemed U.C.O President George Lowenstein yesterday so he could wipe the copious amounts of egg from his face.
As we residents digest the whole sticky mess, surely one thing is certain - we will never know if this George chopped down any cherry trees in his youth!
By the way, where was Megalomaniac Myron with his cries of “show us the money” yesterday?

Left licking his wounds I guess like the rest of us who have been forced, to settle for a pittance payable in installments because, like The Colonel in Chief, he began to believe his own hype of what could possibly be achieved by ill-considered actions in the collection of the elusive millions.

Now was it ten, eleven or twelve? Does anyone actually remember?

There was however a positive side to Solomon’s absence yesterday - apart from the obvious one that delegates have finally acknowledged that UCO Vice President’s should at least possess an IQ larger than their collar size.

He wasn’t there, or if he was he was unfamiliarly silent, and unavailable or unwilling to lead the boo and hissing against the much maligned Jean Dowling.
At last we were finally allowed to hear what she had to say instead of the hearing her character assassinated or the ill-founded accusations of telling a pack of lies.

Seems obvious that the only lies in the pack came from the couple of jokers! and the Ace, the now wealthier Ms. Bleu.

We may of course never know what transpired at the mediation meeting but it seems hardly likely that Judge Major would have tolerated such a paltry settlement without a modicum of knowledge of the facts on both sides of the case and actual figures of money involved.

The financial cost of this fruitless exercise has been high and will be met by money used by UCO that should have been returned to it’s rightful owners - the residents.

Alas we duped mortals will now wait till next January before receiving our monthly stipend.

The cost to our credibility caused by this undignified behavior will merely enhance our already tarnished reputation in the media and outside the confines of our perimeters.

Course those eggy faces on the podium yesterday could be due to the sandwiches served at the mediation meeting - which was so thoughtfully shared (not the sandwiches the details of - they has tuna too!) by Phyllis Richland - pass that towel round when you are finished with it Mr. President!

Mike, I agree with what you wrote. Sue is a brilliant writer. Dave has finally met his match as far as writing skills go. It amazes me how beautifully some of you write, as Ed said “articulate writer ”. My respect to all of you.

Hi Sue and ED,

We already knew that both of you are great wordsmiths. Thank you for your effort.

Why are issues that you so ably descibe a re-ocurring problem in this community?

And what are the solutions?

Dear Anonymous,

Look in the mirror!

If you read the article by Bill Snyder in the last UCO reporter it seems that we here in Century Village West Palm Beach have not learned much over the years. I predict that some years in the future someone will write an article about the settlement agreement. "Why" because there will probably be some other dispute that is going to take center stage.

You are probably 99.9% correct.Have you ever thought about;

the reason UCO does not function for the unit owners is that it was a fix from it's inception ?

I would like to suggest to UCO that they eliminate the following functions-stop the issuance of gate passes and have our residents go the gate to usher their guests in-eliminate the call in system and have our residents go to the gate to meet whomever they want to have come in-eliminate transponders and have all residents show their ID for entrance, abolish the investigations department and let each association do their own investigations-abolish the insurance committee and let each association get their own insurance-cancel the bulk cable contract and let each building arrange for their own cable. Turn the roads and bridges back to WPRF.
Return the irrigation operation back to WPRF. Stop having volunteer ushers and let WPRF hire people to do he job.

I agree with anon - 'the reason UCO does not function for the unit owners is that it was a fix from it's inception' -
Why would any sane person want to be president of UCO? There is no legal remuneration, and there are whiny, confused, forgetful, people all around. Only someone who needs control, domination, and importance would be interested. So right there you have the wrong person, the best of the worst. That person will always be politically manipulative to maintain his/her position.

Prime example: GL rushed us into the mediation agreement, no time to absorb the details, put all the responsibility on the delegates by telling them we had a good case, kept the meeting looking at the future and voting problems, so that no-one called for his resignation because he misled and lied to us for 2 years and 2 elections.

Dear "eliminate UCO" anonymous,

Great idea !!

However, you aren't getting it quite right. All these things you listed along with the UCO control  can be eliminated . They are just contracted  services. All you need is an elected village council of seven people, supervising a retired paid city manager with some paid office help. They could probably handle this with one hand tied behind their backs. The money we would save by eliminating the UCO monument and the UCO incompetence would pay for everything and then some.

Happiness and serenity could come to the village. But how would people like you feed your sick ego.

Just a thought.

And you want to eliminate all volunteer services, and pay for them. Where is the sense in that.

Anonymous said...

The last I looked these "volunteer" services cost us $350,000.

Hi A Nony Mouse,

Not to put to fine a point on the subject; the cost is well over 500K and at least one more bill to come from the Attorney.
