If associations or UCO are looking for appropriate 2008 tone in governing,(I know UCO is not a HOA but it needs to be an example and reasonable)
see - Very abbreviated -
In advocating reasonability as the touchstone for all actions, the principles maintain that homeowners have the right to…
· Security against Foreclosure
· Resolve Disputes without Litigation
· Fairness in Litigation

· Stability in Rules and Charges
· Individual Autonomy
· Oversight of Associations and Directors
· Vote and Run for Office
· Reasonable Associations and Directors

AARP is not always right.Just because they advocate something does not mean that it is right or just. AARP blew it with their original endorsement of the senior drug bill. As a result they lost thousands of members who returned their AARP cards.

AARP is now a BIG Business making a lot of MONEY by allowing firms to use their name and endorsement.Just look at The Hartford or Walgreen's.

The Florida legislature decides how Homeowners and Condo Associations are to be run. not AARP.

Hope springs eternal, could you use your own ethics, integrity, and judgement.

The particular article referred to here was a report by one individual of AARP, written to his department in July 2006. There is no indication that AARP adopted or endorsed any of the items mentioned in the report.

AARP like ALL libo organizations (eventually) is in "business" to perpetuate ITSELF economically.

I was trying to start a discussion about how your association and UCO needs to be governed, what considerations would be good, in addition to the FL state laws. Instead everyone piled on and pulverized AARP, you guys are too feisty.
Does anyone have the Condo Owners Rights that Bob Fogleman used to quote? I remember ‘right to peaceful enjoyment of your unit’….

Condo owners rights normally come from two places. The State Legislature and the Association Bylaws. Want to change things go to the legislature not AARP.

One of the problems is that people who buy into a condo have no idea what it is all about, do not like it and them want to change things the way they would like it.

When you refer to quite enjoyment of your unit you are most likely thinking about the "bundle of rights theory" for most property derived from old english law. Condo laws are "the creature of the legislature". MUCH different.

Right or wrong there are a lot of unhappy people here who do not understand what condo living is all about.

How about instead of trying to change things, learn to live within the system that is in place. Some of of here do that and are very happy with our life here and do not want to change it one iota.

Could elaineb be one of the unhappy people living here?

Dear anon, thank you for your concern. If you cannot tell what a good time I am having on the Blog, well too bad. I am feeling extremely well thank you. Perhaps you could go help the ‘nothing will happen, no-one cares’ anonimice.
Also, do not worry I am not so much interested in change as in getting people to think. C'mon use your name I won't bite.
