Another Ray of Sunshine

On the guard desk in the clubhouse there is a plentiful supply of lists of UCO cmte meetings, time, date, place.
From Avis Blank, UCO Corresponding Secretary. Her job per the Bylaws:
“The Corresponding Secretary shall give, or cause to be given, notice of all special meetings of the Delegate Assembly and the Executive Board, and shall keep a record book with names and addresses of the Officers, Delegates, and Committee Members. Alternate or additional duties shall be determined by the President.” Now that Avis has seen the light, I hope the record book will find itself in UCO and available, we understand it cannot be kept exactly up to date since members often change.

If you wonder why I would be so pleased - I have been banging my head on this since George first became president of UCO.

Hi Elaine,
It would be good to post the entire list on the BLOG.

Maybe in the Side-Bar where we could Update as new ones are published.

Let me know if you need help.

Hi Elaine,

Check again, Channel 63 room could not possibly contain Executive Board.

7/25 Fri 1pm Safety - Classrm B
7/28 Mon 1pm Executive Bd - Classrm B

The above was in a table format, not chronological, that presumably exists on a UCO computer?!?!?
The Voting at 8-9am on Fri 8/1 before the Delegate Mtg was not on the list.

Now one for you Dave. All that phone calling for the UCO Corresponding Secretary must be burdensome could some of it be automated? 10c a dance, sorry 10c a call.

Hi Elaine,
Yes, in fact automated telephone notification of 7854 Units is a solved problem.

West Palm Beach has a system which can notify about 60,000 persons per hour.

I wrote a paper for the Security Committee laying out the process; we would install a T1 line in UCO, replacing all of the current telephone lines.

The standard T1 contains 24 analogue telephone chanels or with the flip of a switch converts to digital at 1.54Mbit (dedicated line uplink and downlink)

An inexpensive program would turn any computer into a Dial-Out system and pla a recording when the phone is picked up, or leave a message on an answering machine.

Let me know if you want a copy of the briefing.

The proposal was rejected of course.

Perhaps we will get a chance to resurface the idea.

The reason you missed the operations meeting is because the paper that I picked up this morning said it was at 10 am this morning, the notice on the cv website said that it was at 1 pm. I don't think it was anyplace because Ed Black was working in the 63 room all morning and Bob went to 1PM and meeting did not exist.

Thanks Mollie, ghost meetings!
Thanks Dave I will take your word for it. I assume these systems translate to the much smaller needs of the UCO Corresponding Secretary. Also the more people have email the less necessity to telephone people to remind them of meetings.

Many people do not have e mail and the calls that Avis makes helps a lot. She does a great job of reaching the people involved.

Perhaps there was no operations meeting as there were very few officers to attend. Everybody involved with UCO right now is just trying to keep it operating until the special election is over. Hang in there in 11 days new officers will be in place.

We have a secretary to remind our smart chairpersons about meetings!!! How quaint, that is like days of “Miss Secretary, get Mr Doofus on the line for me”.
Don’t panic Larry. At a properly run meeting the adjournment includes info on the next meeting time and place. A list at UCO could be available for cmte members to call UCO if they are in doubt of a meeting time. Then the Corresponding Secretary would only have to make calls for unexpected or emergency meetings. Are we really so lacking in personal responsibility and to keep a calendar. What if chairs leave a msg on their answering machine, there are many ways to make life more efficient. Just my view.
