What Next?

Tuesday night's karaoke has been eliminated , the outcome of the last
Operations committee meeting with Ms. Cruz. Not having the minutes
in my possession, I cannot quote, however, due in fact to a motion made
by one of the committee members, obiviously seconded and approved
by ALL of those present ( VP Frank Cornish was out of town) it was
concluded that both Jack, who essentially is responsible for bringing
Karaoke into the village, following the first hurricane, and Tommy&
Dolores, who replaced the original host of Tuesdays' night, Bo, would
alternate as "hosts" Friday Night...... both of these "hosts" have their
own unique style~ and following...why should the villagers, not be able
to enjoy BOTH evenings? It cannot be financial, the budget, provides
for it...and if in fact, one evening is eliminated, where will the EXCESS
monies go? Into the General Fund? How about transportation?
they certainly COULD use additional funds, considering the excessive
daily trips, for grocery shopping, gaming etc., not to mention, the collective hours spent "Idlying" in front of both the club house, and Publics on Community Drive.....

As my topic states " What's Next?"

Hi Betty,
I was in attendance as a Unit Owner observer at the meeting of the Operations Committee when this decision was made.

The problem arose with some mis-behaviour of certain attendeeds of a Karaoke session; specifically, scaling the counter to obtain some cups from the kitchen, fortunately no one was injured by this risky behaviour.

This action raises significant liability issues for WPRF and Anita insists that supervision is required. This means WPRF staff and that means money.

In order to mitigate the cost issue it was decided to reduce Karaoke to one night per week.

Please do not shoot the messenger on this one.

Thanks Dave for telling " the rest of the story ".

Eureka, To go boating you must sign a WPRF waiver. We could also sign waivers for the very dangerous karaoke, coffee drinking (Sy), and line dancing with Madonna.

Hi Betty:
Correction please......Jack did not start Karaoke after the hurricanes. It was already in existence.....He was asked to do Friday Karaoke as another entertainment due to the shut down of the club house and all its entertainments due to Frances and Jean.
Also, other problems arose and existed before the problems Dave mentioned. Karaoke should exist as it has in the past.

Many thanks for your input...
Never would I "shoot" the messenger! However, the incident
referred to was brought up originally, at the July meeting...
It was a One time situation, the
woman,does indeed require super-
vision, which is in place by the regulars who keep an eye on her,
both Tues. and Fridays.... I can appreciate WPRF's concerns, how-
ever, one isolated incident is
not a valid reason, for this action.

As expressed by Ms. Cruz, the amount
of complaints regarding Karaoke as
a whole, has taken more of her time
than any other issue.
Did this in fact influence the
Committees decision?

Thank you to "Music Fan" for the
correction...much appreciated...
and agree with your other statements....

Hi Betty
Aug 31, 2008 3:01:00 PM,

I have never attended Karaoke, so I am not aware of how it operates and thus cannot speak authoritatively.

All I can do in this case is report what happened at this particular OC meeting.

Anita Expressed concern over WPRF potential liability and was clear in her desire to have WPRF staff supervision; UCO was concerned about expenditure of Unit Owner money, thus a compromise was reached calling for cutting back Karaoke to one night per week.

I am not a member of the OC nor a Karaoke participant; thus I have no dog in this fight nor do I have any influence over the final decision.

This issue must be raised by the participants with the OC, or perhaps with the Delegate Assembly.

All-in-All an interesting example as to why Unit Owners should attend these meetings.

Ban the one person from kareoke. You can be banned from the clubhouse just for breaking a rule, banned from bus for no card. Dangerous behavior is worse. Nothing enforced.

I'd be more than pleased to issue
a personal invitation to you and
yours...I'll even dedicate a song
...It's a fun time, and that's how
most of the participants view it..
To Annyms...I'm not a proponant of
banning, education is my course..
the individual,acted without any
thought of danger to herself...
further more, had she injured her
self, she could not have successfully pursued a law suit....
as it would have been self inflicted! so all of this is nothing more than a smoke screen
for something else......like using
the funds to upgrade the lighting
around the Guest Pool, at the
Clubhouse, perhaps, or some other
project, that has still not surfaced...and maybe the eventual
return of karakoe poolside?

If karaoke is taken away to once a week...If you think you have problems now wait till all the snowbirds return..Karaoke is very popular and maybe the operations should revist their decision....
Couldn't a warning been given and those that run karaoke be told any more incidents NO KARAOKE!
BE RESPONSIBLE!
