You may have missed the point behind the bi-partisan support for the LOS Convention. The Convention was negotiated to protect, even extend, coastal state control over the coastal water and seabed. It defines coastal state rights in our own interest while still protecting our right to navigate through the waters of other countries. With the US Navy, the Coast Guard, the Oil Industry, Shipping Industry, Undersea Cable Industry, Fisherman and the Governors of major coastal states, including the current governor of Alaska, all supporting the Convention, you might want to check there reasoning before you condemn the LOS Convention.

All I have to know is that the UN is given control over US sovereign rights. That is a NO NO. Am I suppose to feel good about this LOST because SARAH PALIN supports it. ? I don't think so.

Exactly what sovereign rights are you speaking of?

There is a reason I said click the header, Read it for yourself .If you disagree with Ron Paul fine but I find the UN worthless when it comes to human rights and certainly don't want America going to any global tribunal for permission to conduct business where we want to (land or sea). We have a Navy and other services which can protect our interests, there is no need to give any veto power to a global organization that does very little in the way of helping people other than the well paid delegates in NY. Look at Darfur and other places ,sure gives me confidence in the UN. I guess I'm not a globalist If it were up to me I'd kick the UN out of NY and not pay another cent to them. Our diplomats can handle our money and help the people we want to help.

So, are you also advocating that the US withdraw from the 1958 Geneva Conventions on the Law of the Sea since much of what the articles you reference object to is contained in those four conventions?

Hi All,

Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it.

Before making another comment about this, I would strongly suggest you research the history of the LOS Treaty and then actually read it.
