On page 9 of the January 2009 UCO Reporter, in his article on Maintenance, he refers to “The Department of Licenses”.
Good luck with that one Jerry there is no Florida Department of Licenses. What I assume is meant, if you wish to determine if a Contractor or Handyman is licensed in the State of Florida,
is The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

Given the proclivity of VP Karpf to shoot from the hip and his repeated failure to check the accuracy of his quoted “facts”; it might be wise for him to stop writing in the Reporter or perhaps the UCO Reporter could train a squad of Fact Checkers to filter the flow of errors!

Cleaning up after Jerry!!
Jerry Karpf has put incorrect info about needing permits for doors and windows in 2 UCO Reporters this year, also that jalousie doors are illegal. Jerry does not say if supposed rules are his or UCO’s or what.
I explained to a friend who was concerned about a new jalousie door.
“If you read Jerry Karpf stuff in Reporter do not worry. Notice he does not quote any source for his info.
I spoke with Fred Longo Building Construction Inspector III in County PZB. He said it is County policy that if you are replacing only one exterior window or door within 12 months, you do not need a permit. If no permit then no illegality”
I would add that these doors are flimsy and expensive and no jalousie doors meet hurricane code. This is unfortunate in ‘CV jalousie town’ but this is no reason for UCO to invent their own legal code.
Dixie Window and Door is still installing plenty jalousies in here, I visited them for parts for my door and they agreed no permits needed for one new jalousie.
As long as we're on the subject, please be advised that the classes on 718 are being held by the Division of Florida Condominiums, Timeshares and Mobile Homes, not the Department of Landsales, Condominiums and Mobile Homes (this Division of the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation has recently been renamed through legislative amendment).
The creation of an "Editorial Oversight Committee", committed to researching the accuracy and clarity of statements and information provided by every UCO Reporter contributor would enhance the credibility of the newspaper and the administration as a whole.

be assigned to " Research " all of
the "So called facts", we are fed
on a monthly basis, by many of the
contributors, who need no further
mention...as we all know who they
are!
