GUN CLUB CAFE

We recently went into the new Gun Club Cafe at the Crosstown Plaza on Community and Military. It has been renovated very nicely. The waitresses were very friendly. We were four. Food was great. We met a few people from our village there. All in all, it is great. Now, let's talk about prices. The bill for breakfast for the four of us, including tip, came to $40. Now that's $10 a piece.

Let's compare this to Bagels and More just across on Okee. The food is always great. We meet dozens of people from our village. Everyone is friendly. The customers, the waitresses, even the owner at times sits down with us and jokes around. Now, the bill: It tops $4 plus $1 for tip for $5. That means it is one-half the price of GCC. B&M is the best buy and you meet the best friends and have a better time. That's how I feel; how do you?

Which plaza is Bagels and More in? I'd like to try it. I'm assuming it isn't open in the evening?
Haven't been to the Gun Club yet but have heard it's open in the evening. Now that is a plus to me. I wish we had more old fashion diner type of places in this area that you could go for dinner.
Does anybody remember the Apollo that use to be on Okeechobee? They had great food, comfortable booths, great service and it was open all night long.
I wish some of these great breakfast/lunch places were open for dinner.

Bagels is cheap and good. For up to 4 people it's okay but for more, 8 or 10, we find Gun Club is okay but Denny's on Military and Cherry Rd. is better.

At this time of the era we are in, Denny's is open on all holidays, breakfast, lunch and dinner and late night snacks. The food is good. The waitresses are pleasant. The price is appropriate. It has two rooms. The first one is mainly booths. They do have another room that is mainly tables. I do not whether or not they would position the tables to handle a group. There are other restaurants that will gladly handle groups, such as the Gun Club Cafe (all three), Mario the Baker, Gourmet Deli. There is a Cuban restaurant in the same mall as Bagels and More; it is to the east on Okee. There are plenty more; I don't want to fill up the space with the names of all of them. Have a happy and healthy new year.

The Gun Club Cafes are closed Sunday evenings. I know they are open some evenings. I have been there. At this point in time, I don't know if it's certain days or whatever.

The Bellante restaurant, located on Okee in the same mall as Babies and More, is open in the evenings. Their price is great. All you can eat for $5.59. The food consists of two types of soup, greens, chick peas, etc. for you to produce a salad for yourself, six types of dressings, then onto a variety of pizzas, some with mushrooms, some with pepperoni, some with tiny meatballs, some with no cheese but something that tastes sweet. Then onto spaghetti and penne with a choice of red or white sauce. Finally, dessert: chocolate cake with chocolate icing and a few other things like that. You can go back for as many helpings as you want. They have a special of three meatballs for the same price that they charge for a drink of soda.

I forgot to mention they have Parmesan shakers on every table. They can easily handle a group of 50 or more. Their Parmesan is fresh, as good as any other I have ever eaten.

Can't beat Outback for their $9.99 Outback Special steak. Perfect portion plus two sides. 2 drinks for the price of 1 before 7:00pm.

Was real happy when they

Nutmegger, I am very happy to see your response on this blog. I have been extremely busy in other venues. I mentioned food and especially the parmesan, hoping that you would jump in and say hello. Have a healthy, happy and prosperous new year.

PS: The Century Village web site (centuryvillagewpb.org) has a crossword puzzle page on the accent page. Try it.

The mall that Bagels and More is in is CENTURY PLAZA SOUTH. It is across from our Okie exit and slightly eastward.

The Gun Club Cafe is open for breakfast, lunch and supper six days a week, Monday thru Saturday. On Sunday, they only serve breakfast and lunch.
