Security Committee Speed bump decision

If Security wants to penalize offending drivers who hit the gates, invite the Sheriff to file accident reports and the offending driver to report incidents to their insurance companies. Each such report will have greater impact on the offender than causing all resident to suffer for the few!

If we had to report each 'accident' in hitting the arms their insurance costs might drive these poor drivers off the road, instead of driving the rest of us to distraction.

If the Security committee doesn't think this would work, why does a former police officer on this committee believe it would work. Certainly this problem can be resolved without such penalties being placed upon all of the 'safe drivers' of the village.
Perhaps we need to petition the committee to revoke such a poor choice and implement the above plan to try this for 90 days, costing us nothing, injuring no one and eliminating additional rear end collisions due to the added complexities placed on the few who will not find this cumbersome method easy to deal with.

Just a differing point of view!

Hi Ed,

Excellent idea; IF indeed the Sheriff will respond to such an accident.

Sounds like a wonderful idea to me. However, can anyone document car damage due to speed bumps? I doubt it. A car goes over more bumps on the Florida roads in one mile than going over a speed bump in a year. I also think that physical injury to the driver is nonesense.

Have you had a wheel alignment for your car since the bump? Well, I have. It was way out of whack. The mechanic said definitely a bump of the shape at the entrance gate three to four times a day will do the damage done to your car. The shock absorbers also will wear early. And as far as a person's pains due to the shock of the bump is a fact. We may have bumps in our roads but there are none as severe as the one at the entrance. This is my and my mechanic's opinion, what's yours?

I still submit that if you go over the speed bump, at THE PROPER SPEED, you should have no damage or physical problem, but then, I could be wrong!

Having had our car inspected at
the local Chrysler dealership, there were several screws, that
required tightening, which could
be attributed to the bumps.
Since then have been in other developments, with bumps, that are
user friendly,approaches and follow
throughs are gradual, nothing like
both our cars and bodys suffer for
the priviledge of paying for a transponder, which accelerates the
flow of traffic into the village,
otherwise we would be backed up
onto either Okeechobee, or Haverhill, subjected to oncoming
traffic, at need I state a substantial loss of life!

WE HAVE GOT TO GET RID OF THESE SPEED BUMPS AND NOW - NOT LATER, NOW. THEY ARE HORRIBLE!!! I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT PERSON MADE THAT DECISION? HOW DARE HE PUT ALL CENTURY VILLAGE RESIDENCE THROUGH THIS. WHO EVER YOU ARE - YOU SHOULD BE FIRED. SHAME, SHAME ON YOU! YOU'RE AN IDIOT.

Anonymous 7:52,
Your comment is a little harsh. I doubt the decision to implement the speed bumps were effected without higher level approval. This 'program' was of course in reponse to the high frequency of gate arm breakages. Though I'm certain that the speed bumps have lessened the frequency of breakages, I am also certain that a speed HUMP (gentler slope) would be equally as effective, and additionally eliminate the negatives associated with the present choice.

Speedbump update:
Just got off the phone with the Security Chair. The speed bumps are temporary and will be removed soon. The existing speedbump dimensions are 10" X 2". The speed humps are 14" X 2 1/2" and may be the replacement of choice at the next Security Meeting held in January.

I agree with Anonymous (3 comments up). Randall, anything you can do to help would be appreciated by all. I have been trying to remember to go through the guest lane but forget until it's too late and then pay the price dearly.
