I Did It All for the Cookie!

ITEM: It's not enough to take away people's cellphones when they're driving; now we have to take away their food, too! Maybe we should get drivers horse blinders and a Hannibal Lecter gag as well!

Kind of like the guy that was eating a pizza when he hit our ElaineB.

I'm sorry to hear that. To my mocking list, I'd also like to add a gag; I know someone who shouldn't be allowed to talk and drive, even without a phone!

Now we have a Safety Cmte reminding walkers to WATCH OUT. I would like the Ranger car / COPS, whoever, to hand out notes to people walking on our ROADS, with their backs to traffic – saying HEY DUMMIES DRIVERS WILL HIT YOU! I have seen so many apparently suicidal people lately.

To my knowledge the COP car or our own security company do not have police power in the village.

Neither can stop anyone to give them notes of any kind. Only the sheriff has that authority in the village.

Oh well, it was a good thought thought Elaine.
What really gets me is how some of these young mothers with their baby carriages just walk right across a busy shopping area (example, in front of Publix) without even looking left or right to see if there is a car coming.

Of course, we all know to drive slowly in those type of places and always give the pedestrian the right of way. But if it was my baby, my life - I sure wouldn't put it in the hands of any of the crazy drivers around here.

If the area say in front of Publix is a designated CROSS WALK area the pedestrian has the right of way, the car must yield.

It is ALWAYS safe to assume that people walking out of Publix or other type locations WILL NOT LOOK EITHER WAY. To look at it another way if you see a ball heading to the road, it is safe to assume that a child will run after the ball.

In Century Village it is always safe to assume that pedestrians WILL walk in the road and do not see or hear vehicular traffic.

You are so right about all that Larry. We should all drive so carefully and defensively around here and never forget it.

As a former COP driver, we pulled up to anyone in the road and told them (no notes) to use the cart path or at the very least, wear white clothes. We drove from 11:00 to 2:00 am. The number of people that walk in the early hours would amaze you

Good on ya Ken, did you ever, ever, see any walker with a flashlight, I never did, I always felt I would give a prize to anyone with a flashlight (after all the exhortations of the UCO Reporter).
Chris, I am not concerned about your kind of drivers, it’s the ones that are losing their faculties, peripheral vision, hearing etc. We have a pretty good safety record all things considered.

Wow Ken, you volunteered for the guard patrol from 11:00PM to 2:00AM in the morning? I give you a lot of credit! To tell you the truth, I didn't realize that we had the guard patrol during the middle of the night. Of course it makes sense, I just didn't realize anyone would be willing to take those hours.
Thank you for the help you gave to keep us safe,
Chris
