Food Stories, then and now

We seem to have a great interest in restaurants, cheese, fruit (coconuts) on this blog. So I thought it might be nice if folks wanted to write in about the foods of their lives. I bet we all associate certain foods with many good memories.

It would be fun to hear stories from the ladies/gents telling us of the types of foods they served their families, baking specialties, wonderful barbeque favorites from those lazy Sunday evenings, any kind of food stories from long ago or even last night’s dinner with friends.

A terrific example would be the story Ken told on Elaine’s post about childhood memories. He shared how he and his wife and kids would head to the Gulf water beaches and cook breakfast on the beach with their coleman stove.

It would be wonderful to hear more of these type of stories, or just about foods that you love to eat right now, right this minute.

Anybody have a good food story or just a treat you love to eat?

I love warm apple pie with a slice of cheddar cheese melted on top of it and a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

I like going to the movies (any movie) just to eat the popcorn. M.

I'm Irish, you can't beat a six pack of beer and a potato. Mike

I remember the wonderful smells coming from the backyard on many a summer Sunday afternoons. If you took a walk back there you would see beautiful, golden chickens turning slowly on the rotisserie.

Then wartime - was beans on toast, cheese on toast, no meat, one chicken per year on Xmas Day. Powdered milk, powdered potatoes, powdered eggs, and oatmeal.
Now – I like Panera mango smoothie with raspberry syrup and real whipped cream.

That must have been tough Elaine. England is a great country.

Mike, When I think Irish, I think corn beef and cabbage. Is that a dish that is eaten in Ireland, or is it more of an American Irish dish? Either way, I love it.
