Next Friday we are going to nominate people to fill the empty positions. This is a good thing. The following Friday we are going to vote for the people we want to fill these positions?
I would very much like to see a candidate's forum on Tuesday or Wednesday next week. Because of the emergency timing of all this, there is not time to put bios in a UCO Reporter, and I do not want to fall into the old habit of voting for someone because I like their name or I met them once at the Clubhouse and they seemed nice.
I would like to see a formal meeting where ALL CANDIDATES will be welcome to speak and tell us why they are running for office. What is their vision for the community? I would like to see them answer some questions. Attending candidates meetings on the local level has always been a very important part of my decision process.
To open it to all candidates will help the spirit of unity within the village. It could be held in Classroom C if available or maybe during a time of the day that the theatre would be accessible. Wouldn't it be great to get a meeting where Classroom C would be too small as it was the other day. Village people coming out to take part in the process would be a joy to behold.

What kind of position does this put the SNOWBIRDS in???? No chance to vote or hear the candidates. Kinda unfair don't you think. Who is running this operation to begin with?
I really think that current VP'S should be running the operation until at least the first of November to be fair to everyone. It seems that things are moving too fast if you ask me
Since there were not enough officers to hold a formal meeting to make the temporary selections it is necessary to have a special election at this time. UCO cannot be operated properly without help. Why do yo suggest November? More people will be here in January. People have to know that the business of the village goes on 365 days of the year. Really want to be involved? Get here next Friday and be part of the process.
Seeing the candidates and being able to ask them questions is not a bad idea.

I assume the snowbirds can vote in the next regularly scheduled election. When would that be February??
if an association is being run properly there should be a delegate or alternate in place if the snowbird is the officer of record.
each resident in the association should be polled as to who they would like their representative to vote for. a phone call can do it or a note dropped in in the mail. there are ways to do this correctly only if you want to and have the board that wants to do the right thing. there are associations that are board challenged and so one thing we need to think about is consolidation. this does not take away the autonomy from an association it just gives the area a greater pool of folks to draw from to fill the empty spaces. something to think about.
anyway, have a great weekend. there is more on the way. more to make this the great place it should be.
It's easy for you to say phyllis...when you are up north and something like this arises it's very difficult to get everyone in YOUR association together to make a decision as what candidates you want a designated person to vote for. I see NO reason why the Village can't be run daily with the people elected now until January. Maybe we wouldn't have so much of a problem now if you didn't RESIGN
Phyllis,
You make me laugh when you say each resident in the association should be polled as to who they would like their representative to vote for. In most associations that I am familiar with (which is many), only 1 or 2 people are making the decision for all. Residents are never asked their opinion - no poll is taken.
There should not be a problem for the president or vp to call the unit owners , tell them what is transpring and ask who they want the deligate to vote for . Charge the phone calls to the assoc. Mike
It is kind of amazing that even with notices on boards, UCO web site, notices posted at UCO, information on channel 63 and in the next few days the UCO reporter that many residents seem to have no interest at all as to who the future officers are. I wonder how many residents have contacted their delegate and voiced an opinion? My feeling-not many of the 7854 residential units.
PREDICTION
Less than 200 delegates will vote in the special election.
The President will be elected with about 110 votes.
One Vice Presidential Candidate will get 80 votes, the second 70 votes and the remaining candidates will divide up the rest of the votes.
If I am right I will try to get a job with Zogby or Gallup Polls.
Our president is a snow bird. We contacted him by telephone and he was aware of happenings in the Village thanks to this blog. This morning we got an e-mail appointing a board member as an alternate delegate.
No sweat when you deal with willing, respectful people.

We have a great opportunity here to get UCO running the way that it should. I think this will be far easier than fixing individual buildings. But lets get UCO done first.
