SELECTION OF MOVIES

After walking out of several showings, this summer, including tonight's
feature, should like to know who is responsible for the selections...
Is it in the hands of the individual who as well selects our live enter-
tainment? Thank you for your input..

Whoever does the movie selection should be banished to BBQ Island for a little stoning session..

I can not comment on the quality of the movies as I've not attended.

However, as with anything that is happening at the Clubhouse, comments should be addressed to Anita Cruz.

While she is not directly responsible for movie selection she is in direct contact with the person who is responsible.

Look at September CH movies, best I’ve seen in a long time. Woody Allen, original South Pacific classic, Nazi counterfeiting in 1936, (Less self-centered chick gooey nonsense, yeah!)

The Blog chewed on this several times, this from June 5 '08:
CV VP Entertainment
Wherefore cometh our CV movies and shows, click here http://www.centuryvillagetheater.com/ContactUs.htm But before you drive VP Entertainment Abby Koffler crazy, be it known that UCO, including George L, met with her over concerns expressed here. There are many aspects to the thorny task of selecting movies from the 80 new offerings available to us each year. Ms. Koffler phoned me in answer to a recent questionnaire (wow) and said she “would be thrilled to receive specific requests” from the UCO Programs Cmte. So those of you with the urge to merge with UCO, get over there with your input.

Movie Film Services of Hollywood FL has the rights, licenses etc. for the 4 Century Villages movies. I believe the choice of movies is done by them and the CV Entertainment staff in Boca, per our demographics and preferences, see first post. They tried choosing classic movies but received many complaints that they were already available on TV.

Thanks to all who have responded,
I'm not in FAVOUR of "Stoning"
as suggested, however, the selections should be based upon
viewer audience..and not what is readily available from the distributor..Our audience primarily is over 60 yrs. old,
they attend the movies for entertainment period. Occasionaly some films also educate, perhaps
these two factors should be
considered before hand.

How can one not be in favor of stoning in this enlightened age.

programs and services has never been asked for any input into shows or movies..Chairperson

FRANK CORNISH, VP - UCO

PS: I would look forward to meeting with abbey on this issue.

Am very confident that this situation will be resolved favourably, due in fact to UCO'S VP Frank Cornish's interest in meeting with Ms.Koffler..
( see his post )
Is it not possible that our community's tastes may differ sub-stantially from the rest of the
CV's? Why then should we be obliged to accept what has been selected, without any input from within...I believe in the long run, the current concept will be counter productive for both live
entertainment, as well as the movies.

You can please some of the people some of the time and some of the people none of the time.
I was at the opening screening of Fool's Gold. I had seen it in the theater and enjoyed well enough and had a few laughs while it is not an Academy Award contender. I was in the back of the theater. So many people walked out after five to ten minutes. How can anyone know if a film is good or bad in that time? Why do some people bother to come? So they can complain???? There is a description written about each film, why not read it. I don't go to all the films as I don't think I would enjoy them all just as I don't go to all the films in the theater.
You cannot choose films and hope to please everyone no matter who does the choosing.

I do not know if Frank Cornish was asking for input but here I go again. I wish for Classics, any Oscar winner for anything, any bravura star performance. I go to about 2 Clubhouse movies/year with current selections. September looks better than usual.

I for one can see the classics from Blockbuster or on AMC. There are a lot of films that have recently come and gone that I misssed and would like to see and have seen some of them in the clubhouse. I also would not classify all the films as 'chick flicks'. As I have said before, you can please some of the people some of the time and some of the people never. Century Village has a large age group from 55 - over 100 you cannot expect everyone is the vast age groups to have the same tastes as we grew up in different times and that affects our tastes as well. People need to choose what they want to see by reading the description and not go when they think they will not like it and stop complaining.

In response to Grace:
Due in fact to where you were seated, you must have observed
others, leaving after 30 or in our
case 70 minutes, ample time I would
think for ANY film, to fullfill
the expectations of the viewer...
Perhaps our tastes, are more discriminating.
No one sets out to attend any function, be it films, live performances etc., knowing it would
be unfullfilling, however, during
the course of the event, should that occur, they have the given
right to express their displeasure.
