DAVE: COMCAST IS FINE !!! Do not "fix" something that works !!! Analyze the so called removed channels, please.

REMEMBER, in FEB 2009, with COMCAST, - "we" will NOT have to do a thing, to comply with the digital change.

Hi Capt. John,

There is a broad range of opinion on this issue.

COMCAST has pulled TCM, and Oxygen; and soon intends to pull HBO Signature among others.

While these may not be your "cup of tea", I have received many complaints.

If possible, come to the meeting tomorrow, hear some new ideas and of course put your two cents in the mix.

Dave

Comcast ASSURES "callers", the "pulled" channels will be returned (?).

Also, I KNOW you WILL do your homework - but, in the long run, comcast IS much cheaper; at the deals CV has!!!

No, THANK YOU; TOO MUCH EGO and PERSONAL AGENDA's at "MEETINGS"! And, THAT is the problem - NOT COMCAST !!!

Do a REAL survey, and see how many are SATISFIED with comcast, vie phone complainers, over 2 channels !!!

ps: How about bringing-in some from Comcast, as Larry did, to EXPLAIN ?

Good Luck Dave. Wish I could be there but I know you will do the the best you can for us.
Sorry Capt John, I don't agree with you on this one. I miss Oxygen a lot and will also miss HBO Signature if they pull it.
Dave has quite a fight ahead of him. I don't know he will be able to do anything. Many others folks in other areas of town have lost the same stations we have.
Again, Good Luck Dave! Wish I could be there to support you.

TURNER CLASSIC (which I watch, quite frequently) IS CHANNEL 169!

OXY, which I watch sometimes, IS CHANNEL 83!

SIGNATURE, CHANNEL 29, IS NOT BEING PULLED, SAYS COMCAST (need a rep).

Channels deleted from "EXPANDED BASIC" have been replaced, AS PER SUBSCRIBERS MARKETING !!!

I live in a QUAD (7 - 8 - 9) and, NOT ONE PERSON IS DISSATISFIED, TO THE DEGREE OF CHANGE, WITH COMCAST (DO A REAL SURVEY !!!

What ever you pay now (TV, PHONE, ISP) WILL, DOUBLE and MORE, without the comcast packages.

I ONLY HAVE COMCAST FOR THE TV - I HAVE VERIZON FOR THE CELL (my main and only phone - saves me $60 a month) and my INTERNET,as I use a USB720 and am able to acquire a signal from ANYWHERE (in the car, charging the laptop battery) during a power failure!

Dave: I AM WITH YOU A 100% BUDDY - but, A LOT MORE STUDY, NEEDS TO GO IN TO THIS !!!
If Comcast deleted the NFL, I would not be calling you and complaining, lets have a meeting to get rid of comcast (the HD sports channels, have not worked in a month - lets get rid of ....)

ps: what about FEBRUARY 2009 ???

Hi Capt. John,
Actually we have had our COMCAST Rep. here to explain twice; once at a meeting of the Cable Committee and once at the Delegate Assembly.

Christine Saxon explained that this is part of COMCAST policy regarding conversion to Digital Multiplexing which allows them to increase the number of channels available in the Digital Tiers.

It is, in short, a business decision, not a technical requirement.

We have a contract with COMCAST that, at inception, required the delivery of 74 channels; you tell me, how many channels should we allow them to pull before we say "Breach of Contract". Do not "hold your breath" waiting for COMCAST to return those channels, unless we raise a vigorous protest.

Finally, are you aware that there are Content Providers who will pay us significant sums of money, just for the right to come into CV and provide TV service.

Our Cable Committee must explore all options, before we simply accept this channel removal strategy and pay additional fees for the Set-Top-Box.

Dave: If the decision is made to leave COMCAST, if we have internet through them would it go also?

capt john said...

Yes, DAVE - I am aware; if a "DEAL" looks too good ...the grass is NEVER greener, it only looks ...there are no free lunches or HUGE amounts ...

MY GOD, CHRIS DOES NOT HAVE OXY, LETS CANCEL COMCAST !!!

That's all from me folks - REMEMBER, I TOLD YOU SO - DUH !!!

ps: SORRY, CHRIS --- sometimes only absurdity gets the attention.

Capt John, if you believe that we will not have to do a thing in February to get the channels we now get you are so wrong. The Comcast rep for Century Village, Robert Siebeneck told a computer club group that we will need to have a converter box to get the channels we have now and was hoping the first box would cost about $2.50 or $2.99 per month and the second $5.00 per month plus tax. Without the box we will have very few channels left that we will not have to do a thing for. I for one will be really upset to lose the HBO. I was really hoping to be at the meeting this morning but had to deal with my car brakes instead.

capt john said...

Do you realize how much more than 2.99 OR EVEN 7.99 OR EVEN 12.99 it is going to cost to give up comcast ???

But, don't worry, "we're" going to get "HUGE AMOUNTS" - think I heard that before, somewhere.......Oh yeah, an ENRON meeting or was it at the "LEVY SUIT" --- DUH !!!

Please do not address me anymore, I am OUT of it !!! Thank You

Hey Capt John, WATCH IT!!! But seriously, I still think we are fighting a loosing battle. If Dave pulls this off, it will be the miracle of the century. We are not the only poeple in South Florida loosing all of these great stations. Folks in Jupiter and South Palm Beach have lost the same stations we have and they are paying much more than we pay. IT STINKS! But, so does this bail out... What can we do? Not much. That's life. It sure beats the alternative!

Capt John, AGREED!

Be aware Comcast does not want to lose us. If we only need one box and it costs two dollars and fifty cents, that means you have to times $2.50 by $7,854.00. We are not individual customers. We are not 500 customers. We are 7,854 customers. That means if it is raised only one dollar a month, Comcast gets an extra $7,854. I don't believe they have another customer like we are. We do have clout, and other broadcasters would like to grab us. Just remember, Comcast is not the only game in town. Dave won't disappoint us.

Up to this point, Dave is the only one at UCO I trust.

Hi PLCruise
Sep 26, 2008 8:36:00 AM,

If "we" change from COMCAST to another provider, they will in due course cut the Cable feed and we would indeed lose INTERNET.

Of course, any other provider "we" select would also have an ISP capability; this includes UVERS, FIOS and DBS (Direct Broadcast Satellite). The latter provider being at greatly reduced data rate compared to COMCAST/HSI.

This is a good question, but we are not there yet. There is much negotiating to do.

I beg your pardon?

Elaine I could not find the csiassociates.net/index web site. After the index you have a funny mark that looks like a funny 't' or something. I tried Google and it couldn't find them. You also mention Christine Saxon as coming from Comcast. I have a sheet of paper from Comcast saying that robert Siebeneck is our consultant. What is the deal???

elaineb said...

http://www.csiassociates.net/index.htm
OR
www.csiassociates.net

it looks clear on my screen!
C. Saxon is the contact person for CV Comcast cable contract, she came to speak at the last Delegate Mtg.

Siebeneck is a salesman for all Comcast products who tries to rush villagers into buying. Caveat emptor. All that stuff about you must go thru him for CV internet deal - all I can say is I phoned Comcast and got it, no trouble, without going thru him.
