Thank you so much for the feedback. We apologize if anyone provided you the indication this transition is due to the broadcast transition in February.

---
At the same time, we will not be able to offer the channels via analog. Analog channels use a tremendous amount of bandwidth that will limit the amount of High Definition and other channels that can be provided.

For every 1 analog channel we can offer 10-12 digital or 3 HD channels.

Even within your community, I am sure there are members that would also prefer to have more HD. This is the only way it can be provided.

We are developing DTA (stands for digital to analog) boxes that will make it easier for Customers to receive the channels currently below 100.

These boxes will be available for little or no cost, but they will not provide service such as On Demand or the Guide. They will not also work for channels above 100. We do want this to be easy for everyone as this transition occurs.

I think one of the better options would be to have a representative from Comcast come and discuss these changes directly with your membership. Let us know what you think!

Hi Frank,

We are aware of the Business Decision that COMCAST has made as regards CV WPB customers, and many other COMCAST customers.

When you say " At the same time, we will not be able to offer the channels via analog"; and "I am sure there are members that would also prefer to have more HD",
please appreciate that the total penetration in CV West Palm Beach of the STB is less than 8%.

For the vast majority, the SD 480 line signal is just fine.

The principal driver for most CV unit owners is COST. COMCAST takes away contracted channels and escalates cost as though our Contract means nothing.

Given that CV WPB will be paying COMCAST in excess of Two Million dollars in CY 2009, a cost free STB is very reasonable.

However; if your only message for us is cost increases and service reduction, we do not want to hear that message again, as we have already heard it from Christine Saxon.

Now there are 3 kinds of boxes.
Conversion box – not needed.
Set top box (STB) access to digital - for 2 TVs $84 per year.
DTA box – whazzat? Can it return our missing 7 channels.

I think that this is a positive response from Comcast....invite them in and start the dialog here without the consultants.

At least CV and Comcast have moved off the dime.

Hi A Nony Mouse

Yes, the Frank Eliason response is a slight shift for the better.

The solution is simple;

1) Convert all of our 74 contract channels to digital, thus gaining all of the efficiencies that Digital provides.

2) Return all of the channels that they removed.

The cost savings and Bandwidth efficiencies that COMCAST realizes from this digital conversion should more than finance free DTA boxes in every CV unit.

We would be happy to discuss that with COMCAST.

Yes, the solution is SIMPLE - pay the "man", the .80 and a half cents per week !!!

REMEMBER DAVE, "YOU" ALWAYS HAVE TO PAY THE "MAN" - ONE WAY OR THE OTHER !!!

Dave...I agree with you...makes sense and is a easy solution. Will we be notified as to the results of the committee meeting on Nov.5?

Hi A Nony Mouse
Nov 3, 2008 2:41:00 PM,

The meeting on the 4th. actually is a special Officers Committee meeting.

The Cable Committee will present the two Negotiator team proposals and hopefully a decision will be reached in due course by the Officers to recommend one of them forward to the Executive Board.

If this proceeds nornmally, the proposal will then go before the Delegate Assembly for acceptance or rejection.

Of course the results will be reported here.
