Nominating Committee Rejections

Is this committee exempt from an explanation as to why a particular individual
was not given their endorsement, or is it "Business as usual" "Player or non-Player"

Your BLOGMEISTER replies:

Hi Betty,
I am taking the unusual step of inserting a reply here because this is a Pet Peeve of mine:

I sat one cycle as a member of the Nominating Committee, perhaps two or three years ago; and I was not happy with how it functioned.
--
I asked for the written criteria used in evaluating applicants; there was none!!
--
Then proceeded a totally AD-Hoc process with no real validity whatsoever.
--
Highly qualified applicants (IMHO), were eliminated because they did not agree with the Administration. This I found totally unacceptable.
--
The process is highly flawed and needs to be revamped or eliminated.

Who appoints the Nominating Committee?

UCO President said...

Hi Mike
Feb 1, 2009 11:36:00 AM,

It will come as no surprise that the Bylaws of UCO relegate this task to the President of UCO.

The relevant UCO Bylaw is extracted below:
-------------------------
ARTICLE VIII COMMITTEES

B. NOMINATING COMMITTEE

1. In December of each year, the President, with the approval of the Executive Board, shall appoint a Nominating Committee consisting of a chairmen and ten (10)
members.

There shall be not more than one (1) member from any area. Not more than five (5) members of the committee may be members of the Executive Board.

.....ETC.....!

Quite cozy don't you think??

It is, as I figured , rigged so the president can do whatever he wants . If You get to be Pres, I hope you would make a concerted effort to amend the UCO by laws to correct this awful situation. Mike

One click on a computer brings up good guidelines for nominating cmtes. Oh! look at No.1. No wonder UCO does not like computers.
1. Selection of members: Members of the Nominating Committee should never be appointed by the president, and the president should not be a member of the committee even in an ex-officio capacity.
Of course that is just a little PTA organization, but they do have national rules.

It might astonish you to know that the President of UCO only appoints the Chairman of the Nominating Committee. The Chairman picks the members of the committee. Why don't you all get your facts straight before you publish your slander? And you all talk about Jerry Karpf?????

Same difference Anon, thanks for revealing that Uco does not even follow its own laws.

Hi A Nony Mouse

It may astonish you to know that "slander" refers to speech, so let's assume you mean "libel".

Now that we have that straight; where in this thread is this libel to be found?

My entry quotes the Bylaws; all you are saying is that GL may not be following the UCO Bylaws in some instances.

In the case of my Cable Committee, while GL said it was up to me as Chair to appoint the members of my Committee; in the same breath he insisted on final chop on every member.

I repeat, the Nominating Committee process is seriously flawed and must be revamped.

My question dealt with rejections,
as I did receive one, with out
the common courtesy of explanation,
as to why they could not endorse
my candiacy..I was not aware they
had no criteria per say, perhaps
they can now take the time to
scramble one up, after the facts...
This is another issue,that should
be addressed in the future...An Independant Nominating Committee/
consisting of chair, appointed by
Pres., and Members, at large of the
community
PS My photos were NOT returned.

Hi Bettie
Feb 2, 2009 6:15:00 PM,

Remember, you may still be nominated from the floor at the Delegate Assembly.

Ten Seconds must rise and support the Nomination.

Line up your support and go for it!

Dave:

Is it unit owners of delegates who must second the nomination ??

Hi A Nony Mouse

Delegates must both Nominate and Second.

Following is the applicable extract from the Bylaws of UCO:

ARTICLE IX

Meetings of the Delegate Assembly

B. NOMINATIONS FROM THE FLOOR –

Nominations may be made by a Delegate from the floor at the Annual Meeting provided that:

1. The nomination is seconded by ten (10) or more delegates.

2. The nominee accepts the nomination.
