UCO AND THE GOLF COURSE - PART TWO

Hi all,
The following appeared, today on the Greenbrier C BB. It is unsigned; as was the previous posting.

UCO and the Golf Course (Part Two)

UCO's ambivalent attitude in regards to taking a pro-resident position concerning the golf course has become incredibly irresponsible and shocking.

Can UCO honestly believe that this issue is not worthy of their active participation? What is UCO waiting for? At the last delegates meeting, why didn't the leadership of UCO bring up the subject and explain how they were going to challenge the Waldman's outrageous attempt to diminish our life style and threaten the future of Century Village? Do they really think, they can sit on the sidelines and do nothing?

It is obvious that the Waldman's plan was to develop the golf course from the first day of ownership. That's what they do.

In terms of importance, the Levy lawsuit pales in comparison, considering how every resident will be impacted by lower property values, increased security concerns, increased traffic, noise, children, pets and a lack of open green spaces.

George Lowenstein and UCO must do what they were elected to do and defend the rights of all West Palm Beach Century Village unit owners, with all the resources at their disposal, before it is to late.
Remember, the future of Century Village is at stake!

Why doesn't a delegate make a motion that UCO set up a committee and fund the political fight to stop the property from being rezoned? This is basic stuff. Mike

Whomever is posting this on the Bulletin Board should go to their delegate and complain????Or maybe they should talk to Mr. Shapkin and the ad-hoc committee???

Am I to assume from the above that no-one stood up at the Delegate meeting and asked for UCO to invite the Waldmans to speak to CV. Or even to run the Video of their last presentation for us? Dave's suggestions fall on stony ground.

Why is everything Dave's
fault. Every 55 plus
community would love to
have a David. Dave works hard and gives so much of his time to CV. Please give him a round of applause. He certainly
deserves it.

Yes, Dave is great and he needs all our support!

I hope that it stays a golf course. But if its made into some kind of houseing, just a thought, why would anyone build that now the way the economy is?

Hi All,
I have discussed this issue with UCO President Loewenstein.

He wants some sort of mandate from the Delegate Assembly (The UCO board of Directors).
What would this consist of?

" A delegate to rise at the Delegate Assembly and move that UCO Coordinate all necessary efforts to resist the development of the golf course for Residential Housing."

And then, of course a favorable vote to enact the motion!

The ensuing discussion by the Delegates must include how this effort is to be funded; remember, UCO does not print money, ALL funds come from us, the Unit Owners of CV.

I believe that UCO has something to contribute to this effort; but there must be an unambiguous show of support from all unit owners of CV, by way of the Delegate Assembly.

Finally, much Research and Groundwork has been accomplished by the Pro-Active Committee; they must be part of a coordinated effort to resist the Golf Course Development project.

Thank you Dave, finally the definitive answer as to why UCO hasn't gotten involved that hasn't including shouting and accusations. The delegates have the power to do what they want to do, but have to say what they want by bring it up at the assembly, Exec. board, etc. UCO only has the voice that you (the delegates) give it. If you don't like what they're doing tell them what you want done. You (the delegates) vote, they don't.

Misunderstood again by nutmeg and cruise. There was no criticism of Dave in my post. Dave has repeatedly suggested that someone needs to stand up at the Delegate Meeting. Apparently no-one has. See, Dave makes same suggestion above again.
No more metaphors.

While I am not happy to think that there will be housing outside our door and the traffic it will bring I am also not happy to think of a big fight that will have someone putting their hand in my pocket for more money for lawyers. I have been told to expect a larger increase coming up in our 2010 UCO maintenance due to the canal restoration etc. I don't want to have to pay for a lawyer to fight for what may be the final outcome on the property beside us. Would it not be helpful if our residents wrote to the zoning commissioners enmasse to let them know that we don't want the zoning changed? How about a petition stating our wishes and a committee going to the zoning meeting with signatures. That will certainly take time to organize but there will be no outlay of money that some living here just don't have.

Century village is futility wrapped in inertia. Are you ready for professional management yet

The days of bullying and corruption are over. You do not have to "buy" a commissioner anymore.

The County is obligated to send out notices of use changes to all affected parties...that includes all the unit owners of Century Village.

At that time, you show up at the meeting with 100+ people.

I guarantee the 100+ people will get their wishes.

No need to spend money..no need for UCO.

You just have to be willing to report corruption to the FEDS.

I wonder why people donate money to political campaigns? They must have nothing else to do with their money. Why do lobbyist donate to political campaigns? Maybe they are buying influence ,so a politician will vote in their interest. I wonder?????????

Mr. Weiss is absolutely correct in my opinion. The property is zoned Golf Course in Perpetuity. It is the owners task to get this changed and that will not happen if letters and a petition are submitted and if there is even a hearing on the matter the personal appearance of those opposed would be persuasive.

I apologize I see his name is Kurt Wise, not Weiss.

I think it's a simple matter of letting the Board of Commissioners know that the majority of CV citizens oppose any change in the golf course zoning laws. A potential of 8,000 to 12,000 voters still has some power.

Maybe we could compromise and support a change in zoning to " miniature golf course in perpetuity". I could get behind that if skee-ball was included.

Dearest Sy,

You are delusional. There are 2-3,000 voters in Century Village, only half of whom are Jewish. You are in the minority. So start talking sense.

Oh god.

Good idea DON, I loved playing Skee-Ball on the AC Boardwalk.

Dearest Annonymous:
I truly must be delusional, or am I wrong; can only certain religions vote? Excuse me!
No elected commissioner will turn away 2,000-3,000 votes. How do you think we defeated the last attempt to change zoning laws?

The golf course is closed for good. Now what should we expect to be happening there?
