New Digital Box Experiences

The rules: I will never order anything that has a charge attached from Comcast.
The service is glitchy this week, some of it may be because of storms, wide Comcast S. Florida maintenance Tues and Wed nights, and work on analog conversion.
Anyhow, I was exploring Channel 1, Video on Demand. I was proceeding thru menus Top Picks > Bikini Body (no laffing) when I got the message “Your Explorer set top is not authorized for use. Call 800-266-2278”.
So, I just spoke with an exceedingly pleasant young lady at local Comcast 800-266-2278, she explained that msg meant my box had lost its connection. She reconnected my box and gave me instructions, she also answered other questions about glitchiness, occasional stickiness waiting for Channel 1 instructions to appear, and the notice saying “already ordered”!! Hey I did not order anything – she said that can show up when a show has a $0 cost eg. Bikini Body.

Nice customer service person was sorry they have no complete list of what is free so sometimes you just have to click, click down the menus.
Request: When bloggers find good free programs please list on blog.
My favorite today 1 > TV Entertainment > Comedy Central > Stand Up > etc. One of these ended up with a problem msg and an error code to call in, HA HA. I am not going thru phone menu again, even with the nicest person at the end of the phone menu.

it doesn't seem to get anybetter we were born to soon many of us and can't or won't be able to catch up. only kidding aabout classes at 19.95 or am I. I thought MSG on a label was bad for us ?

Cute Giacomo.
I would never put MSG or HFCS (high fructose corn syrup) in my blogs and there was none in the egg rolls either. Sometimes anonymous says there is BS. But that is just Kvetchy Anonymous, and lately Conspiracy Anonymous.
What do you think of a Whiners Award on the blog the Ultimate Complaining Oscar (oops that would be UCO award).

I looked for the special movies that we have. I discovered that "On Demand" didn't mean FREE on my demand. So all these thousands of movies "on demand" are going to have a fee. Some are high as ten dollars. For me, this puts Comcast as not being truthful in their advertising. I need a company like this like I need a hole in the head (in English, so everyone knows what I mean).

Hi Abie
Jun 14, 2009 12:59:00 PM,

Please look again,

1) Go to Channel 1 (Video on Demand)
2) Navigate to "Free Movies" (Use the down arrow on your Remote control

3) Select "All Movies A - L" or "All Movies M - Z"

4) Navigate down the list until you see something you like.

5) Press the "OK/SELECT" button.

Bingo; FREE MOVIE.

Don't be intimidated by the Remote Control; it is no more complex that the Remote you have been using on your TV for years.

Explore, look around, you will find lots of free stuff.

I got hooked up yesterday. I had to ask for the easy lesson. The technician saw I have VCRs but didn't tell me you need to program them through the new remote. The second box that I am paying for cannot work as there appears to be a problem with the cable in the living room. I scrolled through all those free films. There was not one worth watching. My son told me to upgrade to a DVR box to record directly into the DVR Comcast box. I will go back to the clubhouse to check it out and another package to maybe get back HBO. I am upset to have missed the programs that I was taping. It appeared to tape but the tape was blank. We should have been shown how to tape using the remote as the written instruction did not work for me. The whole remote jammed and would not work until this morning.

Not only are the "free" movies worthless...they have commercials!!!!

Boy, cable boy, did you screw us.

Hi Grace
Jun 17, 2009 9:51:00 AM,
How can one comment on the statement that "not one was worth watching"!

This must be a matter of opinion; some have commented that the movies are fine.

As for VCR's they must first be patched properly into the signal path; and the Technician should do it.

Comcast has hired a number of Sub-Contractors and some appear to be less than fully knowledgeable on the process.

There is a number scrolling on Channel 63: 847-4792.

This number is specifically for Technical issues with the Box rollout in CV. Please call it, leave a message describing your problems and in due course they will be addressed.

Yes, some of the free movies do have commercials. Many, by the way, do not.

Did you ever notice the criticism and very nasty remarks are always done under the name “anonymous”. Anonymous 12:51 PM, let’s see you do better. Would you volunteer the hours and dedication that Dave has done to get this job done. I doubt it! You nasty anonymousness make me sick. Grow up. You’re not children anymore.

Dave is really doing a good job that many of us would shy away from here in CV. I was at Hastings today and to listen (due to his LOUD voice) a retired college instructor from NYC blabber on about how he always had "a better deal from Comcast in 1983 than the Cable Guy--Solomon Israel (sorry Dave) negotiated for CV..."

Anonymous said...

Don't you people get it.

Dave negotiated a wonderfull deal for Dave

F*** the rest of the people and what they need.

UCO's F*** you attitude ( yes Dave, you are officially a UCO piece of s***)is going to destroy the few things let at CV that are good.

OK. We get it. You don't like Dave. Is your name George, by the way?
