Shoreline restoration

I saw the work on the shoreline as it was being done and later reported in the UCO Reporter. Is any further shoreline work being planned? Thanks.

Veolia Plows

Any suggestions for Veolia?
This is W. Falkirk St, along the N canal. When the trucks lift the dumpsters they gouge the ‘grass’ into dust. When it gets bad they move the dumpster to an undamaged spot and damage that too. Repeat, repeat.

Washout, concavitated irrigation

When the pipe breaks, the banking will fall, down will come … For those who think the banks look ok, this is on the west side of CV. A rush of water removes a lot of our sandy foundation.

Deluxe Lift Station

The third CV deluxe lift station is online. We used to have the simple red pump, then 9 months of noise and construction. Now the finished product. It is more elaborate than the station near Haverhill 4-ways. See SCADA technical info in the archives August 6, 2008. The white ‘house’ holds batteries that will keep the waste flowing out of the village even in case of power outages.
For other problems of power outages, you are on your own.

Frank saves Lincoln

VP Frank Cornish gets water to CV Lincoln Street, that is. Water seemed to have been forgotten for new turf and new ‘live oak’ trees until yesterday and 2x today – thanks Frank. Stay tuned for return of the leaves, we hope.

North Canal Bridge

I cross the foot bridge every morning on my walk. It has always been quite dirty there and a great breeding ground for mosquitos. A pipe broke a while back and in bringing in equipment to repair it more of the walkway on the opposite side was cracked and trees, which should not be growing on the bank of the canal were pulled out and left dying. Coarse sand was put to repair the bank of the canal. In a big rain storm it will end up in the canal with the rest of the sand. The water no longer flows freely and just trickles over the sand bar. The water level is down as there is a pipe under the road to the gym where the water level was always up to the top of the pipe and is down from the top now. We will have more erosion on the banks if the sand bar is not dug out and the bank should be properly repaired and look nicer than it does.
I spoke to Sol at UCO in place of Pat Blunck who is not there and he gave me lip service and said that the County Water Company is so busy repairing other pipes that break in the Village that they don't have time to finish the repair properly. Gee, don't we pay for this service and quite a bit of money. He was not willing to put pressure on them to come and finish the job.
It would be nice if the Beautification Committee took a walk over and seen an ugly sore at the Village that a lot of us use. It could certainly use some help.

What Is It?

Does anyone know what they are building or have built on the south, east corner when coming into the village from Haverhill? It looks like there is some kind of antenna coming out of the top of it.

WATER FOUNTAINS

Hi Mark,

The following is extracted from the CV Q & A:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Author: Marc Velonis (---.234.42.94.Dial1.Miami1.Level3.net)

Date: 08-08-08 23:05

Does any (one) know if the water fountains in the lake are ever going to work again? They were very nice. I remember there was talk about it a few years ago, but nothing was ever done.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is a somewhat complicated issue; when the fountains were originally installed the electricity to run them came from the Admin./Medical center building, which then was the property of W.P.R.F., Inc.

When Brad Estra purchased the building he did not realize that he was paying for the power to run the fountains for a long time.

When he found out, to make a long story short, instead of simply having FPL cut off the meter and the power, he destroyed the wires.

Now there is a controversy as to how to proceed; a number of possibilities occur;

1) Reroute the wires to the Clubhouse.

2) have the wires reconnected to a single meter in the Medical building and simply agree to pay the bill on that meter.

3) construct a small solar power panel along the shoreline for each fountain and let the sun power the fountains which in due course would amortize out the original costs.

I believe this issue is on UCO's plate and will be resolved in due course.

WHAT IS THAT ANTENNA AT THE FOUR CORNERS NEAR GOLF'S EDGE?

Hi All,
Have you seen this antenna at the corner of the Ring Road and Century Blvd., Did you wonder what it is?

Well it is a Telemetry (to measure from afar) monitoring station; it is part of the upgraded sewer lift pumping station being installed.

There are thousands of these SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) installations across Florida and Nationally.

They monitor the operation of many facilities and transmit data in real time to a central computer facility where

Engineers can anticipate incipient malfunction and within certain parameters effect repair, or dispatch a crew to fix the problem.

Check it out, it is not pretty, but it is important.

Haverhill Gate: Just a quick "thank you"

In the midst of the revolution, I just want to offer a thank you to the UCO infrastructure committee (and Larry Kall) for the improvements at the Haverhill Gate. We just returned after a seven week absence and not only were the walls cleaned and painted, the dead palm trees and broken lights have been repaired.

Eureka!

Reportedly, the Haverhill gate is being POWER WASHED!

Good things do happen in time.

Crane @ Golf's Edge?

Does anyone know why the big red crane is parked at Golf's Edge near the Haverhill Gate?

Shoreline Restoration 2.

I was misled, Wellington K is not the worst at all; Northampton, Chatham Isle and towards Somerset have more of a problem. CV has 36,000 linear feet of ‘shoreline’. UCO is reviewing the engineering report and testing of 5 different solutions is ongoing. Up to 5 methods will be used according to the type of erosion. No buildings are about to fall into the water. That’s all the info I have.

Haverhill Gate ABRACADABRA

I have in on the good authority of V.P. Sal Bummolo that the contract is signed for cleaning and painting not only the Haverhill gate and walls but also, the Okeechobee and Southampton gate areas. This should be done soon, give it a month before sounding off again.

Shoreline Restoration

Photo Wellington K
From the CV website: Sal Bummolo, Shoreline Restoration, At the July Delegates' Meeting…. July!!
C’mon Sal step it up. What was the result of the engineering study on shorelines?
Is Wellington K the biggest problem? I looked at it. I think it could be fixed by a crowd of angry villagers with pitchforks, rocks, and sandbags. The water in the pic is only a foot deep and there is a wide shelf of terra firma under it, growing grass.
No need to panic, except maybe about the cost, but we need more regular bulletins. Please.

Haverhill Gate

I asked Larry K. and Pat B. at UCO this question some months ago (last May, in fact)---when will the Haverhill gate walls be cleaned up/painted? They are a mess. Pat B. from UCO said he had a proposal for UCO for this task, but nothing has been done. Anybody have any updates? Thanks.
